The Director serves as a resource and coordinates meetings and special events that enrich the quality of the experiences of diverse medical students, faculty, and staff at the OUWB School of Medicine. Under the guidance of the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, functions with major latitude for independent judgment and proactive decision-making. The Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) leads OUWB efforts to create and promote an accessible, equitable, and inclusive culture at the institution. In support of this culture, the Director of DEI is responsible for leading the development and implementation of key diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the University's mission, core values, and strategic priorities. The Director of DEI serves as an advisor and resource to faculty and staff in assuring practices and policies inside and outside the classroom are equitable and inclusive. The purpose of position as the Director of DEI is vital to the direct overall day-to-day operations of the Office of Diversity & Inclusion including supervising full-time staff and part-time student employees. They serve as a senior staff member and a liaison between the School of Medicine, university partners and community partners. The director focuses on the execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in support of the University's and School of Medicine's strategic plan to create a learning and working environment where faculty, students and staff have an opportunity to succeed. The Director of DEI ensures that intentional collaboration with academic and administrative leadership, faculty, staff, students, external partners, and community stakeholders to shape and sustain a university environment where all employees and students have an opportunity to realize their goals. The Director of DEI plays an essential role in the development and administration of DEI initiatives, trainings and learning opportunities to create a shared understanding of the connection between an equitable and inclusive culture to student and employee success.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
A minimum of six (6) years of experience in leadership/management plus two (2) years of supervisory/management experience.
Ability to understand best practices for advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion, including racial equity, and in providing culturally mindful and culturally relevant education.
Develop collaborative and trusting relationships with individuals of all identities, abilities, and diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrate conflict resolution strategies.
Engage in transparent and effective communication both verbal and written.
Demonstrate effective writing skills in the development of reports, documents, resources, and presentations.
Develop, implement, and evaluate plans, programs, policies and processes.
Create and present effective and engaging learning and training programs.
Complete job tasks with minimal no or low supervision and staffing.
Demonstrate budget management and development of fiscal reporting.
Leadership experience in providing oversight of diverse populations, project development.
Ability to teach and/or provide classroom instruction or lead presentations.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree; or equivalent experience contributing to large-scale initiatives within diversity, equity, and inclusion in education organizations.
Preferred Five (5) years of experience coordinating diversity, equity and inclusion programming or initiatives.
Preferred experience in higher education or academic settings.
