The Director of Equity and Belonging will partner with Country Day leadership and community members in efforts to empower all adults and students to see themselves reflected in the community while also appreciating the multiple identities and cultures that comprise who we are. The successful candidate will help to intentionally build an environment that promotes deep respect and appreciation for cultural differences, especially on behalf of traditionally under-represented groups, including people of color, families with limited financial resources, individuals with disabilities and first generation college-bound students.
As a member of the Administrative Team, the Director of Equity and Belonging reports to the Head of School with the expertise and support needed to influence key areas of policy development, decision-making, and management and to help monitor and assess school culture and ongoing efforts in admission, hiring, retention, financial aid, and curriculum development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership
Provide strategic leadership, guidance, and support in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging that further Country Day’s Mission Statement and Core Values.
Chair and facilitate the work of the school’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Alliance (IDEA) committee and associated work on The Assessment of Inclusion and Multiculturalism (AIMS) recommendations
Partner with the Marketing and Communications Department to recruit diverse, mission-aligned families
Partner with the Admission Office to assist, support, and welcome diverse, mission-aligned families during the application and onboarding process
Partner with community members to focus on the retention of diverse, mission-aligned families
Management
Develop, implement and support professional development for Staffulty that deepens cultural competency and the intersection of race, class and identity in the community
Collaborate across all divisions and departments to plan, organize, and implement events for students to bring awareness and competency to discussions of race, class, and identity
Collaborate with Division Heads, the Academic Support Team and Emotional Support Counselors to support and assist with parent education opportunities
Coordinate and Support Affinity and Ally groups for families, students and employees
Consult with Admin/faculty on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) related problems or incidents
Policy
Partner with Division Heads and the Business Office to provide strategic guidance around policies and practices impacting the student experience of minority or marginalized communities
Support the recruitment, onboarding and retention of a more diverse employee population by partnering with Administrative Leadership and Human Resources
Develop a proactive support system for under-represented students and their families to ensure that every student has the resources needed to be successful at Country Day
Curriculum
Work with Division Heads to implement periodic review of curriculum scope and sequence through a lens of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field: graduate degree preferred
