Position Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy

Description:
Hofstra University's Department of Allied Health and Kinesiology in the School of Health Sciences invites applications for the tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. This appointment will begin on September 1, 2025.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, teaching, and maintaining curriculum in their areas of expertise, as determined by the Program Director. They will serve as an academic advisor to students and engage in scholarly activities, including conducting research, presenting at conferences, publishing, pursuing grants, and mentoring student research. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to stay current in their academic discipline through ongoing study, research, and professional involvement.
Interdisciplinary collaboration with other allied health programs is required to enhance student learning and contribute to program development. The candidate will also be expected to contribute positively to committee service within the program, department, university, and profession. Faculty members in this position report directly to the Occupational Therapy Program Director.
Qualifications:
Successful candidates for the position of Assistant/Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy will possess the following:
Preference given to candidates currently certified by NBCOT.
Minimum of 5 years of occupational therapy practice and at least 2 years of teaching experience in an occupational therapy program (adjunct, part-time, or full-time) Candidates with less than 5 years of experience but with outstanding academic performance (e.g., enrolled in terminal degree programs such as OTD, EdD, PhD, ScD), notable scholarship, or clinical achievements (e.g., ATP, CHT, BCP certifications) will be considered.
Enrolled in post-professional degree or interest in enrolling in post-professional degree (i.e., PhD, OTD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, ScD).
Licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in New York.
Commitment to academic excellence, scholarship, and professional growth.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and colleagues across disciplines, fostering an educational environment built on respect, integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.
Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary collaboration with allied health programs to enhance student learning and program development.
Dedication to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
Evidence-based approach and growth mindset that supports innovative teaching and learning.
Strong communication skills with colleagues and entry-level MOT students, promoting productive dialogue and engagement.
Proven ability to work effectively with teams, contributing to a collegial and collaborative atmosphere.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated teaching experience with content expertise in various disciplines (pediatrics, adults' disability, assistive technology, etc.)
Earned terminal doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy, Health Sciences, or related field
Teaching experience in a doctoral or master's therapy program.
Established record of scholarship including research, conference presentations or awards.
Evidence of commitment to developing an interdisciplinary project among other allied health colleagues
Actively involved in the occupational therapy profession or interest in becoming engaged in the AOTA, NYSOT and its academies and/or chapters.
