The Business Officer for Baylor University's Honors College and Graduate School is the senior advisor and partner to the Honors College Dean and Graduate School Dean on all financial and administrative matters. This leadership position is responsible for the effective conduct of the business affairs of the Honors College and the appropriate allocation of resources to achieve the University's and Honors College education, research, and business objectives. In addition to reporting to the Vice Provost for Administration and Operations, the Business Officer receives direction from the Dean of each School and guidance from the Financial Services Office as a member of the University's Business Officer Council and is accountable for the sound, compliant and prudent operation of business within their assigned Division, College, or School.
A Bachelor's degree in business, finance or accounting, and five years of commensurate progressive leadership or management experience in a finance/accounting function is required. A CPA or MBA, and seven years of experience in nonprofit finance and grant management is preferred.

Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and listening), and the ability to communicate difficult and complex matters effectively to a range of audiences and skill levels.
Ability to gather, synthesize, analyze, and manage large amounts of complex data from numerous internal and external sources.
Ability to maintain discretion and highest professional standards while working with confidential information.

What You Will Do
Provide financial and business oversight of units that report to the Honors College and Graduate School and all activities of the College/School ensuring appropriate accounting, reporting, and compliance with policies, regulations, and external restrictions.
Coordinate with University's Advancement Office, Office of Vice Provost for Research, Division leadership, and the Research Development Office to plan and support external funding opportunities.
Provide financial management, guidance, and support to the Dean and leads units in developing, implementing, and evaluating new business and revenue generating opportunities in alignment with University and College/School strategic plans.
Employ a proactive, future-based approach to workforce planning to ensure the College/School is strategically positioned to meet rapidly evolving opportunities and challenges.
Develop plans and alternatives for management actions.
Develop, analyze, and implement effective and innovative budget and administrative strategies for College/School and units.
Lead Honors College and Graduate School budget creation, budget projections, and analysis of expenses, serving as a key resource/liaison with central Baylor finance teams.
Formulate financial strategies and contingencies.
Understand the financial condition of the unit in relation to the University's overall financial position and translates data for the Dean and departments.
Administer financial operations, processes, and procedures and ensures support of audit and compliance functions, maintenance of strong internal controls, and risk management activities.
Coach and train employees; participate in interviews and hiring decisions; manage staff; evaluate employee performance; address complaints and resolve problems.
Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission.
