POSITION DETAILS
The School of Arts and Sciences at Hunter College -- the largest academic unit within the City University of New York (CUNY) -- consists of over 460 full-time faculty, 26 departments, 10 interdisciplinary programs, serving 15,000 undergraduate and 4,000 graduate students. The Dean???s Office seeks an Institutional Research Specialist for Student Achievement to enhance student success, academic excellence, and a culture of data-informed decision-making across the school and college.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Achievement, the Institutional Research Specialist will prioritize supporting academic units by overseeing data collection and assessment efforts aimed at enhancing student success, continuous improvement, and accreditation needs for the School of Arts & Sciences. The role also involves working collaboratively with other areas across the campus community, including student affairs and the learning centers.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Institutional Research Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
??? Compile, maintain, and analyze institutional data:
o Manage the annual production of the School of Arts & Sciences Common Data Set, including data on enrollment, retention and graduation rates, academic programs, course offerings, faculty information, student engagement, and student outcomes.
o Support the data requirements of academic departments, including Academic Program Reviews, Annual Reports, and routine requests.
o Analyze survey results and provide actionable recommendations to improve student engagement and success.
o Design and conduct student survey research and focus groups to collect qualitative and quantitative data on student experiences and outcomes.
o Support the data requirements for the University's annual reporting obligations as mandated by statutes, government regulations, or accreditation standards.
??? Produce reports and metrics:
o Contribute to business intelligence solutions; assist in the development and maintenance of tools, including dashboards, data visualizations, to enhance data accessibility and insight.
o Provide data querying tools to enable users to access the information they need promptly.
o Generate regular reports and respond to time-critical ad-hoc data requests from various stakeholders.
??? Maintain databases and ensure data quality:
o Maintain technical documentation, user manuals, and data dictionaries.
o Ensure compliance with security protocols and data integrity standards.
o Maintain web accessibility and actively contribute to team processes and standards.
??? Collaborate across campus and engage with stakeholders:
o Work under supervision to collaborate with student affairs, the learning centers, the Registrar???s Office, ICIT, and other campus units to support institutional goals.
o Participate in cross-functional teams and committees, including the CUNY Institutional Research Council, to advance data-informed decision-making.
o Serve as a liaison between the Dean's Office and various campus units to ensure alignment of data initiatives.
o Provide training and support to stakeholders to enhance their ability to interpret and utilize data effectively.
??? Consult and Advise:
o Consult with others in designing methodology for research projects.
o Advise on best practices in data collection, analysis, and reporting to enhance institutional research efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
??? A Master's degree in data analytics, computer science, information systems, or a related ??eld.
??? Proven experience with data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), data prep tools (e.g. Power Query, Tableau Prep), statistical software (e.g. R,SPSS, STATA), survey software (e.g. Qualtrics), and SQL.
??? Prior experience working with Oracle PeopleSoft, EAB Navigate, or similar Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Student Success systems.
??? Strong understanding of user interface (UI) principles, cross-browser compatibility, web accessibility standards (Section 508 and ADA compliance), and web security standards.
??? Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of data and promote data-informed decision-making within an organization.
??? Experience conducting student survey research and focus groups.
??? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across diverse campus units.
??? Active participation in professional organizations related to institutional research is a plus.

Salary commensurate with education and experience. ($72,667-$86,645)
