Title: School Counselor - Full-Time
Position Description:
Brawerman East Elementary School is hiring a full-time School Counselor to support and guide our students with their social and emotional development and to be successful in the classroom learning community. The counselor is a part of a collaborative student support team with a high level of communication and collegiality. The position includes observing students within the classroom setting and providing support to faculty, facilitating small group and individual student meetings, communicating with parents and outside support providers, participating in the admissions process, and acting as liaison between the school and outside professional support related to social and emotional support. This position will be at the Erika J Glazer Campus (3663 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90010).
About Brawerman East Elementary School:
Brawerman East Elementary School of Wilshire Boulevard Temple is a Jewish day school (Kindergarten to Grade 6). Along with the Erika J Glazer Early Childhood Center, it forms the Wilshire School East. Brawerman East opened in 2011 in the heart of Los Angeles’ Koreatown, adjacent to the historic Wilshire Boulevard Temple sanctuary. Qualifications:
A master’s degree in counseling, social work, or a related field is required.
Prior experience working in a school setting.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Must be flexible, organized, proactive, and possess strong interpersonal skills
Proven commitment to excellence and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative environment
Responsibilities:
Work with teachers
Serve as a resource to faculty on student social, emotional, and behavioral concerns, and deepen their understanding of the developmental needs of students.
Model and implement effective strategies for classroom and behavioral management Observe students presenting challenging behavior, coach teachers on effective strategies, develop behavioral plans, and support their implementation.
Monitor effectiveness of individual plans by following student progress and communicating with teachers.
Guide teachers in implementation of lessons focused on health and wellness, building social skills and self-esteem
Attend weekly grade level meetings about class as a whole and individual students.
Work with students
Observe the whole class and individual students.
Support students through short-term individual counseling and guidance to address specific social, emotional, or behavioral needs of students and, if necessary, make recommendations for ongoing outside support services.
Maintain documentation of observations, work with students, and communicate with parents.
Meet with individual or small groups of students if there is a crisis or immediate situation.
Participate in the admissions process through individual assessments during playgroup sessions and other needed times.
Work with parents
Coordinate and facilitate parent education programming.
Communicate and meet with parents on a limited basis regarding student behavior and well-being and provide guidance to find outside support when students need more ongoing counseling.
Compensation: $60,000-90,000
