Senior Academic Advisor (Student Services Professional 2 - MR09)

The Senior Academic Advisor will provide academic advising for undergraduate students in these categories: new freshmen (for the first year), new undeclared transfers, continuing undeclared students, and students in academic difficulty. When needed, this position will guide the students to various campus resources that provide academic and/or psychological counseling. The Senior Academic Advisor will manage advising caseload through accurate record-keeping, maintain relationships with assigned academic departments, and assist with New Student Orientation. This position will serve as Application Administrator for Navigate for Advising and coordinate Early Alerts and Progress Reports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic Advising
Provide quality academic advisement to assigned caseload, which may include: first-year freshmen, undeclared transfer students, and continuing undeclared students during the academic year and orientation. Also includes covering designated office walk-in hours; counsel students on academic issues and program progress and assist students in identifying and overcoming academic difficulties through thoughtful educational planning; assess individual student needs, make appropriate referrals to other campus services and resources as needed and aid students in establishing realistic and attainable academic goals; develop, execute, and report on multiple advising campaigns each semester; preregister incoming students, present information sessions, and assist students with registering during New Student Orientation.
Program Coordination (Early Alert and Progress Report Coordinator)
Develop and maintain an early alert system with the mission of identifying students that could use additional support or academic intervention; coordinate with academic support services (tutoring, academic coaching, Supplemental Instruction, etc.); manage case referrals, triaging as necessary; process student academic performance data related to early alerts and progress flags; provide support for faculty, advisors, and campus partners.
Campus Liaison (EAB Navigate Administrator)
Serve as the Navigate Application Administrator for Professional Advisors; manage the Navigate platform by setting up and training new professional advisors in the system; triage Navigate issues from professional advisors by either resolving the problems or serving as the liaison with EAB to resolve the problem; serve on Advisors' Council Training Committee as the Navigate expert; collaborate with stakeholders to create and run relevant campaigns and reports.
Special Projects and Other Duties
Develop and maintain a strong communication line with academic departments and various
student support divisions; collaborate with other administrative and academic departments as needed to improve advising process and services of the Navigate platform; serve on other university committees as needed; actively participating in regional/national organizations relevant to advising duties (i.e. NACADA) expected to present and/or publish with related organizations on a regular basis; other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

- Ability to multitask and display a high degree of accuracy
- Possess strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to thoroughly understand and abide by federal and university guidelines regarding student confidentiality requirements
- Strong technical skills including being computer literate and knowledge of relevant software programs, such as Microsoft Office, Banner, Degree Works, other related student service systems
- Knowledge of student development and academic advising theories

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree; experience in a higher education setting working with students' academic needs, providing advising services, and coordinating support services; experience in the use of computers and related software programs (Microsoft software programs, Student Information Systems, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications: Masters degree in advising, counseling, higher education administration, or related field; three years' experience in a higher education setting providing academic advising as a primary job responsibility; experience with early alert and/or progress report initiatives.
