Job Description:
Approximately one in six Brown graduates chooses to pursue a first job related to Science and Engineering, including positions in life sciences and health. In this context, the Assistant Dean will be responsible for building and maintaining a comprehensive program of support that enables students to develop specialized knowledge about Science and Engineering career pathways, prepare to engage in both structured and unstructured recruiting processes, connect with a community of alumni, family, and employer partners, and access opportunities to explore Science and Engineering career experiences. The Assistant Dean will also develop strong relationships with faculty and administrators in select departments to support and expand the advising and activities that Brown faculty do to support students' interest in these career fields.
The Assistant Dean will partner closely with Center colleagues to support students through counseling, programmatic offerings, and engagement with potential employers. The incumbent will also provide direct advising support to students in group discussions, open hours, workshops, and presentations. As an advising dean in the College, the Assistant Dean will utilize inclusive advising practices to fill the role of academic advisor and colleague to other college divisions and programs, and serves as a member of various College and University committees, as assigned.
Professional Pathways Team
The Professional Pathways team supports student knowledge development toward pursuing career pathways in specific industry areas, preparing students to participate in a variety of structured and unstructured recruiting processes. The team develops detailed information about hiring timelines, essential professional skills, and relational networks for a variety of industries, and shares 'recruiting roadmaps' with Brown Center for Career Exploration counselors, campus advisors, and academic departments. Professional Pathways team members collaborate with Center colleagues on the Career Counseling, Partner Engagement, and Student Exploration teams to support students through counseling and advising initiatives, programmatic offerings, alumni & family networks, and engagement with employer partners.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Advanced degree and 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working in Science or Engineering positions or equivalent experience as a career advisor and/or academic administrator at a college or university focused on supporting Science and Engineering career pathways.
Job Competencies
Successful experience in academic program administration, including planning and development, implementation, and assessment.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and mobilize others (staff, faculty, students) to achieve shared results.
Proven track record in furthering university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives while supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds is required.
Outstanding written and oral communication skills, discretion, sound judgment, and leadership skills.
Willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community. Demonstrated ability to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in executing job responsibilities.
Additional Information
Occasional evening and weekend work required for essential Center, College, and University events.
