Under general direction, the Coordinator of Behavioral Health Services is responsible for managing and coordinating behavioral health services. This includes providing clinical care and mental health education for college students and staff. The role also involves developing and coordinating behavioral health programs, providing direct clinical care, and offering mental health information and education. Additionally, the position includes coordinating assigned staff and performing related work as directed.

Manages Behavioral Health Services by providing clinical care and mental health education for students and staff (i.e. - coordinates the development, planning, and implementation of mental health services, policies, educational programs, wellness programs, and crisis prevention/control; identifies the mental health needs of students, faculty, and staff; ensures that programs are well organized and responsive to the emotional and psychological needs of the college community; ensures compliance of mental health programs and policies with applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures; serves as a campus mental health advocate and consultant on mental health-related matters; develops, updates, and integrates effective referral systems; develops proposals to college administration for mental health services; develops policies, procedures, and clinical protocols for behavioral health).
Provides direct clinical services (i.e. - conducts intake assessments and mental health evaluations; develops treatment plans for individuals with mental health concerns; offers individual and group counseling services; manages crises and provides interventions for students in acute distress; includes follow-up care and coordinates mental health interventions for students returning from hospitalization or treatment; collaborates with other healthcare providers and off-campus referrals as necessary; maintains comprehensive and confidential clinical records; administers mental health screenings for conditions like depression, anxiety, and substance use; provides support for students with complex mental health needs in collaboration with academic and disabilities counselors).
Collaborates with campus safety personnel in response to mental health crises or emergencies (i.e., evaluates reported mental health incidents, prepares incident reports, develops and recommends mental health crisis protocols for health and safety purposes).
Maintains inventory and manages resources for clinical services (i.e., orders and maintains supplies for mental health screenings, educational materials, and clinical tools necessary for behavioral health services).
Provides education and information relating to mental health services (i.e., develops and implements campus-wide mental health education and awareness programs; promotes mental health through workshops and mental health fairs; counsels individuals and groups on mental health issues; coordinates campus speakers, conferences, and outreach programs related to mental health; prepares educational materials on mental health topics, such as stress management, resilience, and coping strategies).
Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities (i.e., assists with budget development and compliance for behavioral health services; compiles and analyzes data related to mental health utilization and outcomes; submits reports to the Dean of Students; prepares and maintains confidential mental health records; reviews forms and documentation related to mental health services; operates computer software for record-keeping, case management, and scheduling).
Interacts with various agencies/individuals (i.e., attends meetings and serves on committees; collaborates with external mental health providers and local resources; maintains liaison with community mental health and social services agencies; works with student organizations on mental health-related issues; coordinates insurance and referral processes with students and external agencies; communicates with faculty, staff, and students to ensure seamless care and coordination).
Coordinates assigned staff (i.e., provides training and supervision to staff providing mental health support services; plans and reviews work assignments; conducts staff meetings and case reviews; interviews and recommends the hiring of new staff; evaluates staff performance and recommends actions related to promotions, discipline, or salary adjustments).
Maintains professional knowledge in applicable areas (i.e., stays current on trends in mental health services and regulations; attends workshops and training; participates in professional organizations).
Minimum master's degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, with at least five (5) years of experience and training, including clinical counseling, mental health crisis intervention, and mental health program administration. Must possess and maintain a valid state license for independent clinical practice (LCSW, LMHC, LICSW, etc.).
Demonstrated leadership, clinical expertise, and the ability to manage crisis interventions.
Strong understanding of the ethical and legal aspects of campus therapy.
Experience working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+ communities, and students facing complex mental health issues.
Expertise in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and evidence-based practices.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
