DESCRIPTION
Revelle College is one of the undergraduate colleges established at the University of California, San Diego and was named in honor of Roger Revelle, noted for his research on global warming and a major force in the founding of UC San Diego. The colleges are distinguished by their general education curriculum and traditions. Revelle College is known for the breadth, depth and rigor of its general education requirements, which include humanities, mathematics including calculus, language, natural science, social science, and fine arts. Students at Revelle College are actively engaged and involved in a variety of student programs and activities. Revelle College is home to approximately 5000 undergraduate students.
The Assistant Academic Advisor is the first point of contact for the Revelle College advising unit and has primary responsibility for overseeing the flow of students through the advising intake area. Screens and answers questions from students, staff, faculty, and the general public in person, over the phone, via e-mail, and through the Virtual Advising Center. Schedules meetings between students and academic counselors. Provides work direction for peer advisor staff in collaboration with their supervisor.
Provides basic advising to undergraduate students on University and College requirements, policies, and procedures. Assists with Drop-in advising as needed. Completes administrative advising tasks. Works with advising staff in student enrollment activities (new student enrollment, orientation, prospective student events, and various academic workshops for new and continuing students). Provides direct administrative support to the Dean and Assistant Dean including collecting data and compiling statistical reports, preparing petitions for review, and assembling materials for meetings and events.
Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends (e.g., Triton Days, new student orientations, enrollment period, and Commencement).

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and experience working with a diverse student population. Proven ability to effectively listen and advise students on University and college requirements, policies, and procedures.
Experience in higher education environment and/or familiarity with UC San Diego administrative and academic organization and operations, such as the UC San Diego undergraduate college system. Knowledge of UC and the department / school / college. Understanding of higher education goals, structure, and functions.
Proven experience in planning and organizing meetings and events.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven ability to understand, remember, and explain detailed information orally and in writing with accuracy and clarity.
Demonstrated accuracy in dealing with large volumes of paperwork and detail. Ability to proofread and correct written work.
Knowledge of standard correspondence formats.
Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills (poise, active listening, tact, diplomacy, patience, discretion, assertiveness) to effectively interact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in-person, by telephone, and via e-mail.
Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
Demonstrated skill in organizing work and prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions. Ability to manage heavy workload and handle multiple tasks with potentially competing deadlines, while maintaining accuracy.
Strong ability to exercise independent initiative and sound judgment within general guidelines with the acumen and sensitivity to assess and identify those situations and decisions which require higher level approval or consultation. Ability to prioritize people and situations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
Proficiency in using personal computer for word processing, data entry, email, spreadsheets, electronic calendars, and internet searches. Experience with or ability to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software adopted by the college. Experience in scheduling and maintaining multiple calendars in Microsoft Outlook.
