Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking as Student Counselor (business title, Academic Advisor). Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Recruitment and Community Engagement, this Student Counselor provides academic advising and counseling to undergraduate students.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
Counsels assigned caseload of Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS) and University College-Newark (UC-N) students, including, facilitating declaration of major, progress toward graduation, and successful career and/or professional development for them.
Coordinates the Peer Advisor program.
Works with OAS recruitment and community engagement team to assist with the coordination, development, and facilitation of initiatives targeting prospective and incoming students as well as currently enrolled undergraduate students.
Contributes to school-to-school transfers, re-enrollment, commencement activities, major/minor fairs, and other special events.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor's degree in student counseling, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related field and two years relevant experience in academic counseling/advisement; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of first year and probation student populations and programs, student development and counseling theories and applications, and workshop design and presentation
