Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments within the UCSD School of Medicine with comprehensive clinical programs, extensive basic science and clinical research, and diverse educational opportunities for students, residents and fellows. Under the direction of the Research Manager for MotherToBaby Pregnancy Studies, the Research Project Manager will coordinate and support research activities for MotherToBaby Studies in the Division of Environmental Science and Health in the Department of Pediatrics. The incumbent will initiate, develop, and revise study protocols; will interface with study sponsors regarding study progress and enrollment; will take meeting minutes; will coordinate preparation and dissemination of study progress reports according to timelines; will assist the study physicians with classification of study outcomes; and will work with the Research Manager as directed to ensure completion of all study activities on specified timelines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Clinical Trial Professional certification from a professional society within one year in position.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility in order to work effectively with staff, study sponsors, and agencies in person and on the phone. Ability to problem solve and resolve conflict.
Demonstrated experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, and the general public.
Understanding of research activities and guidelines related to consent, ethical conduct and protection of human subjects. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and to communicate with staff, sponsors, and physicians with professionalism, sensitivity and discretion.
Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of pregnancy related complications. Knowledge of known mechanisms of teratogenesis and the animal and human literature to support this.
High proficiency and knowledge of PC and MAC software applications including Word, Excel, SPSS, PowerPoint. Word processing and E-mail skills to produce reports, profiles, correspondence, graphs, and spreadsheets to generate and track required data.
Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload and frequent interruptions. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet strict guidelines and deadlines. Ability creatively analyze and problem solve.
Writing skills to prepare and synthesize clear scientific reports, records, and procedures.
Demonstrated experience using quality assessment and quality methods of research.
Theoretical knowledge in toxicology, embryology, epidemiology with a combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience in coordinating research activities and evaluate results. Ability to pay conscientious attention to detail.
Demonstrated experience working in pregnancy related research.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of and ability to communicate and ensure compliance of current UCSD policies and procedures. Knowledge of UCSD and other state and international research requirements.
