Job Description:

• Administers the same religious rites as the dean in an ecumenical Christian setting while possessing the creativity and experience to lead multi-faith and secular rituals, including memorial services, vigils, and weddings in the chapels and other campus locations.

• Fosters student participation and develops student leaders for the Sunday gathering and other public gatherings and ceremonies.

• Works to ensure that undergraduate and graduate students understand they are welcome to participate in the full range of activities supported by Rockefeller Chapel and Spiritual Life, including performing arts programming.

• Cultivates a sense of student belonging through community building activities.

• Shares in supporting the campus community as a trusted advisor and public leader during moments of crisis and celebration.

• Supports student, faculty, and staff vocational discernment and development.

• Possesses the credentials, community endorsement (ordination or legal equivalent), and experience to provide individual support as a confidential resource for Title IX.

• Speaks intelligently and publicly about the study and practice of religion, engaging a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students on matters of meaning and vocation.

• Collaborates with Spiritual Life and other divisions and offices on campus in the development of multi-faith programming.

• Occasionally serves as the Deanâ™s designee in his absence.

• Navigates a large, complex, organization with interwoven constituencies with wisdom, maturity, and compassion.

• Develops content for Chapel publications and website.

• Serves on University committees as a representative of Rockefeller Chapel and Campus and Student Life.

• Manages the dissemination, interpretation and application of program policies and recommend or make exceptions.

• Contributes to design of program content, policies and strategic planning efforts.

• Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Master of Divinity degree from an ATS accredited divinity school or equivalent.

• PhD strongly preferred.

• At least one completed unit of Clinical Pastoral Education.

• Endorsement (ordination or other authorization) by a recognized religious body.

Experience:

• Significant religious leadership experience either in a university setting, central denominational office, congregational, or hospital setting.

• Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:

• Superior written and verbal communication skills.

• Manage confidential and highly sensitive information.

• Exercise independent judgement and work effectively with a highly diverse team and constituency.

• Demonstrated conflict-resolution skills and the capacity to work with persons during moments of distress and heightened emotions.

Working Conditions
