The Putney School is seeking a full-time Mental Health Counselor to begin work as soon as possible. The Mental Health Counselor supports the mental health of Putney School students by providing high-quality direct clinical care psychoeducational offerings and working collaboratively with all members of the school to create a developmentally appropriate clinically-informed educational environment for students. This position reports directly to the Director of Counseling and Wellness and works intimately with members of the Health Services Team and the Dean of Students Office. Responsibilities: Provide individual counseling sessions to students. Provide as-needed crisis intervention assessment and referral services. Facilitate group counseling sessions. Provide family support services including periodic updates clinical recommendations and transitional/referral services (excluding family therapy). Complete clinical documentation for all clinical services. Provide case management services to students and families allowing families to connect with outside providers and resources. In conjunction with the Director of Counseling and Wellness Dean of Faculty and Dean of Students plan and present professional development sessions focused on mental health child and adolescent development and appropriate interventions; design mental health and wellness curriculum and programming; provide guest instruction in select academic classes including Health Seminars. Participate in team meetings as appropriate both to contribute clinically and provide support and professional advice to Putney team members. Be available to Putney team members as needed to problem-solve student psychosocial challenges. Be available outside of the traditional school day such as evenings and/or weekends in order to see students when they are not in class or activities to be determined by the Director of Counseling and Wellness. Annual professional development opportunities. Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Social Work or Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Clinical certification (CADC) or licensure (LICSW LCMHC LPC) through the state of Vermont or ability to obtain license within 6 months of hire. Minimum 2 years experience working with adolescents or in a school setting. Training and experience conducting crisis assessments.
