DESCRIPTION
The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), is an NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) institution that provides the infrastructure to support high-quality and innovative translational research. ACTRI's vision is to translate scientific discoveries into improved health by delivering education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area and beyond. Mike Hogarth, M.D. and Davey Smith M.D. are the principal investigators on ACTRI's CTSA grant. The ACTRI functions under the direction of Gary S. Firestein, M.D., Director, and Senior Associate Vice Chancellor Health Sciences at UC San Diego.
Within ACTRI, the Translational Research Technology Center (TRT) provides a one stop shop of flexible laboratory-based services for translational studies to ACTRI members and external collaborators. Services include biorepository, sample acquisition, and laboratory (bio-analytical and assay development). TRT provides full-service biobanking to CTRI and affiliated institutions. The TRT laboratory provides analyte determinations on a variety of human and animal materials principally through immunoassays and quantitative PCR. We encourage all forms of collaborations.
As part of the ACTRI, specifically the Translational Research Technology Center (TRT), under supervision, the TRT Staff Research Lab Associate will participate in biobanking and biospecimen analysis. Assist with biorepositories. Duties include routine processing of human blood and other clinical samples. Incumbent will assist in receiving and cataloging specimens of human tissue and body fluids. Incumbent will assist NBDC and ABCD biobank projects. Assist with duties and record keeping to comply with UC San Diego safety regulations. TRT Staff Research Lab Associate will handle other laboratory tasks including maintaining an accurate laboratory notebook, detailed inventory of clinical specimens, freezer inventory, ordering supplies, preparation of solutions, maintain a clean laboratory area, minor equipment maintenance, and other lab tasks as needed. Other duties as assigned.
