The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Residential Life. The Gatton Academy is a public residential STEM program established and funded by the Kentucky legislature. It is located on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Students complete their last two years of high school in the program while earning at least 60 hours of college credit. This is a 12-month live-in position that reports to the Director. Gatton staff are employees of WKU.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Manage the area of Residential Life within The Gatton Academy.
- Ensure all aspects of Gatton's residential life contribute to a safe, supportive, inclusive community that reinforces Gatton's values of integrity, compassion, respect, equality, and diversity
- Oversee all aspects of Gatton's residential life services including student safety, staff training, student orientation, discipline, and student registration records
- Supervise and develop residential life staff and student workers
- Manage division budget from annual state operating funds
- Envision new programs, opportunities for growth, and refinement of services for division
- Implement, monitor, and assess functions of the division, including tracking annual performance indicators for division
Manage student and building safety and security.
- Provide emergency response and support.
- Provide student and staff training in safety protocols.
- Develop, implement, and adapt emergency action plans.
- Create and maintain permissions protocols and communication channels with students' families
Manage residential student support and student discipline
- Oversee residential life programming designed to build students' practical life skills and establish a supportive community in which to live
- Teach ACMS 175 for juniors, ensuring it is in keeping with the curriculum guides and meets students' needs
- Provide student support in mediating conflicts
- Serve as Gatton's judicial officer in disciplinary meetings
- Investigate allegations of student misconduct and policy violations
Serve as Building Coordinator for WKU
- Coordinate with WKU Facilities for building repairs and service
- Oversee the maintenance and use of Gatton vehicles
- Oversee the maintenance and use of Gatton's laundry room and kitchens
- Develop and implement protocols for the care and replacement of Gatton furniture
- Collaborate with other WKU units in maintaining Florence Schneider Hall
Serve as part of the Gatton leadership team and as a college application process advisor for students.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, student affairs, or related field
- Graduate coursework in psychology, counseling, student affairs, or related field
- Leadership experience in a residential setting
- Experience with gifted or high ability students
- Must live in Florence Schneider Hall
Additional Information:
Compensation and Benefits
- 12-month contract paid over a 12-month period
- Two-bedroom apartment with living area and kitchen provided within Florence Schneider Hall
- Salary range of $55,000 - $60,000 annually, with benefits package including options for medical insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, retirement plan (KTRS or ORT), partial University tuition waiver, University Bookstore discount, and reduced-price membership to the University's health and fitness facility.
