The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announces an opening for Dean of Student Services at East Los Angeles College (ELAC). ELAC is seeking a student-centered leader focused on growing, developing, and aligning educational programming in response to student and community needs, as well as supporting our college's commitment to educating the more than 55,000 racially and socioeconomically diverse students. JOB DESCRIPTION The Dean of Student Services is responsible for providing administrative leadership in overseeing the successful coordination of First-Year Experience, College Promise, Welcome Center, Completion Center, and Fresh Success. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, the Dean of Student Services directs the planning, organizing, expanding, and implementing of successful First-Year student recruitment with wrap around services from entry to completion for ELAC, including academic programs to foster an engaging and inclusive community for incoming students. The Dean is also charged with ensuring that the college delivers on its primary mission to serve as a comprehensive community college in providing educational, community, and student services, to improve the quality of life for all the residents in the college service area. In addition, the responsibility for ensuring that programs and services under their supervision meets the needs of a diverse student population, promotes equitable outcomes, complies with all state and federal regulations, complies with the budget goals of the college and the district, and promotes the mission of the college and district. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision and oversight First-Year Experience, College Promise, Welcome Center, Completion Center, and Fresh Success.
Collaborate with the Deans over offsite locations, including the Southeast Campus, Rosemead Center, all K-12 Districts, community partners, and feeder institutions.
Coordinate with campus partners to assist first generation college students, transfer students, and other special populations; inform and enhance resources and services in support of student learning and engagement.
Develop relationships with all student services departments, instructional services, adult education, and career technical departments/units.
Educate campus community on the College Promise Program.
Analyze information and build data-driven processes to improve procedures and protocols to encourage persistence, retention, and student success.
Requires evening and Saturday campus supervision.
Oversee the FYE academic progress monitoring.
Promote student success through guided pathways and other student-centered frameworks.
Responsible for submission of program review for areas of oversight.
Participate in community-based activities, advisory committees, and other collaborative endeavors.
Supervises the personnel for the areas in their charge; including hiring, schedules, evaluations, and any other contractual requirements.
Promote programs to serve the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled, and ethnic backgrounds of the community college student with sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
Serves on accreditation, shared governance, and/or college committees as assigned.
Represent the Vice President of Student Services Division as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet minimum requirements as an administrator by:
Master's degree or equivalent (from an accredited college or university); AND
Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment; AND
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
A strong understanding of/and commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA).
Ability to demonstrate good judgment, tact, team spirit, and inspire/motivate others.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with supporting students with transfer and completion.
Knowledge of student success theories to guide program conceptualization, design, and implementation.
Demonstrated experience in working in/with local feeder institutions and community-based organizations.
Demonstrated leadership experience in planning, organizing, and implementing student services or comparable programs.
Demonstrated experience in interpreting, articulating, and implementing a variety of regulations, policies and procedures related to student services programs in California.
Demonstrated experience in working with special populations such as K-12 Students, Undocumented Students, EOPS, Students with Disabilities, Foster Youth, and other populations.
Knowledge and experience in the implementation of Federal and State programs.
Ability to create and implement a diverse and culturally responsive environment, programs, and activities to enhance student access to equitable resources and services.
Experience in grant writing and management.
Knowledge of budget development, implementation, and management.
Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a demonstrated ability to produce significant reports/documents.
Proficient computer and technology skills.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicant's expense prior to employment.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT - COVID 19 VACCINATION:
Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated and complete a baseline test or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date. Additional detail regarding how to request an accommodation, required weekly Covid-19 testing, and mask requirement will be provided by Human Resources for newly hired or transferred employee who are unvaccinated.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The basic salary range is from $166,752 to $195,792 annually. The doctorate differential is $5,940. The selected candidate will be allocated within the salary range according to previous salary. Employee benefits include 15.5 paid holidays annually, 15-24 days paid vacation annually depending on length of District service, medical/hospital, dental and vision care plans and a $50,000 group life insurance policy.
