To teach undergraduate courses or work with research for an undergraduate program, faculty are required to hold a minimum of a Master's degree in the teaching field or a related field.

To teach graduate courses or work with research for a graduate program, faculty are required to hold a terminal degree in the teaching field or a related field.

The College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS), is comprised of eight departments: Addictions & Rehabilitation Studies (DARS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLSC), Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDI), Health Services and Information Management (HSIM), Occupational Therapy (OCCT), Physical Therapy (PTHE), Physician Assistant Studies (PADP) and Nutrition Science (NUTR). The CAHS offers six 6) undergraduate (BS) degrees, seven (7) Masters (MS) degrees, and four (4) doctoral degrees (DPT, AuD, and two (2) PhD's).In addition to offering these degree programs with various tracks, the HSIM Department administers the Health Care Management certificate program for the College of Business MBA and MPA degrees and administers a certificate in Health Informatics. The CSDI Department operates the Speech and Hearing Clinic for patients; provides hearing screening tests for all prospective Education majors; and evaluates and provides therapy for students with hearing or speech difficulties in conjunction with Disability Support Services in the Division of Student Life. The Nutrition Science offers dietetic programs. Enrollment exceeds 1050 students. More than 1,000 ECU undergraduate students are declared Pre-Allied Health students and are advised by the Pre-Allied Health Advisors at the Advising Center. Faculty members prepare students for allied health careers in undergraduate and graduate degree programs through classroom, distance education, laboratory instruction and off-site clinical rotations. Two additional fee-for-service clinics are offered: physical therapy; substance abuse and employment readiness counseling.
