We are seeking a CO Financial Counselor who will coordinate pre-registration by completing financial clearance for scheduled and non-scheduled patient appointments. The financial clearance process includes but is not limited to insurance verification, obtaining referrals and authorizations (when applicable), communicating pertinent information to the patient and referring physician that may or may not have a financial impact on requested services in addition to documenting all appropriate systems as for outpatient services rendered. Serve a liaison between the physician, insurance company and patient to ensure all services are financially cleared prior to the date of service to enable prompt access to appropriate clinical/surgical services. Depending on actual work location, may be assigned to outpatient and/or inpatient caseload.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Effectively use budget resources within control. Inform supervisor and/or team lead of supply needs.
Confide with team lead or supervisor prior to making decisions based on established policies, procedures, and protocols.
Read and understand requisitions, referral and insurance forms, patient related data and other forms.
Read and understand all screens related to insurance.
Read and understand departmental protocols.
Read and understand written product directions.
Use information in protocols to fulfill duties effectively and responsibly.
Complete simple reports.
Perform other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
1-2 years related medical office, hospital, medical call center or similar customer service environment.
Certification on host systems as appropriate.
Certification to be obtained during 120 day introductory period.
Final applicant for this position may be required to complete skills assessments appropriate to position description.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical training or AA.
Additional education beyond minimum experience qualifications may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Physical Requirements
Able to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination.
