Description:
The Associate Dean for Research and Innovation position provides support for the College of Engineering's research enterprise, with an emphasis on further enhancing the strengths and potency of the College's research portfolio and deliverables. This is achieved by fostering and advancing research collaborations, identifying and structuring new opportunities of benefit to the College, promoting strategic internal and external partnerships; and ensuring the necessary College-wide practices and systems of support for the scholarly work of the faculty, staff, and students of the College.
The Associate Dean for Research and Innovation is expected to work with the constituents of the College of Engineering (COE) to further strengthen the COE's research productivity and reputation in alignment with the cross-departmental focus areas of Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications, and Complex Systems and Networks.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
North Carolina A&T State University is a public, doctoral high research land-grant University that enrolls over 13,300 students. The University is a learner-centered community that develops and preserves intellectual capital through interdisciplinary learning, discovery, engagement, and operational excellence.
The College of Engineering, with over 2,300 students, has EACABET accredited undergraduate programs in Architectural, Bio-, Biological, Civil, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a CACABET-accredited program in Computer Science. On the
Graduate level, the College has 8 Masters of Science Degree programs, and 5 Doctoral programs distributed across its seven departments. The five research cluster areas of the College of Engineering (COE) are Autonomous Systems, Cybersecurity and Resilience, Energy and Sustainability, Healthcare Applications and Complex Systems and Networks; where the COE welcomes faculty dedicated to engaged teaching, innovative research, and who thrive in an environment that embraces diversity and inclusion within the student body, faculty, and staff. Requirements:
Extensive research application experience in working with the Department of Defense or equivalent
Demonstrated ability to mentor others (e.g., faculty, staff, students)
Ability to work well with others in a team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in strategic planning and execution
Ability to establish and maintain rapport with faculty and staff in academic and professional environments
Commitment to diversity and innovative thought
Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills
Experience in writing, submitting, grant applications and delivering on the work in a timely manner
Able to manage numerous, complex tasks in a timely manner
Experience in supervising technical personnel
Additional qualifications for applicants seeking the role and tenure as a Professor:
Earned doctorate in engineering or computer science discipline and a record of academic accomplishment commensurate with the full professor rank
At least three years of administration experience at or above the level of program director or department chair, preferably in an engineering or computer science area
At least 8 years experience planning and successfully conducting research and/or other scholarly activities
Additional qualifications for applicants seeking the role as an non-faculty Administrator:
Earned graduate degree in computer science or an engineering discipline and at least 10 years of experience as a demonstrable leader in the application of engineering and/or computer science in a federal, state, or corporate setting
At least three years of administration experience at or above the level of program director or department chair, preferably in an engineering or computer science area
Preferred:
Candidates for this position should also be committed to advancing the academic and professional success of historically underrepresented populations in the disciplines of the College of Engineering at North Carolina A&T State University.
Experience in securing and delivering Department of Defense research and contracts is also preferred.
