Position Overview: The salary range for this position is $[97,500]-$[120,100]. 'Off-scale salaries' and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.
The Department of Human Ecology in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Design with a preferred emphasis in applied ecology and climate resilient communities and practices. This is an academic year (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor position that includes an appointment in the California Agricultural Experiment Station (AES). Faculty members who hold an Agricultural Experiment Station appointment have a responsibility to conduct research and outreach relevant to the mission of the California Agricultural Experiment Station. Participation in outreach programs and performance of University service are also expected.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a capacity to produce scholarly and creative work in environmental design that addresses critical socio-ecological issues around climate change adaptation, resilience, and mitigation. Their work should promote equitable and sustainable communities, drawing from a background in ecology as applied to the built environment, including (but not limited to) novel techniques in the ecological mapping and the design of climate-resilient communities; human-centered or engaged scholarship approaches to climate adaptation planning; or traditional ecological knowledge and indigenous approaches to landscape management.
The appointee will teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, with a typical load of three courses per academic year. They will teach core courses for the Sustainable Environmental Design and Landscape Architecture majors, including LDA 50 - Site Ecology and/or LDA 150 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems. Additionally, they may be expected to teach upper-division studio or capstone offerings such as LDA 170 - Site Design; LDA 171 - Urban Design; LDA 18x Advanced Landscape Architecture Studio; or LDA 14x - SED Capstone Series. Typically, they will also teach one graduate or upper-division seminar that supports aligned graduate groups and advanced topics in LDA or SED. The appointee will conduct public outreach and/or community engagement, and provide service at the departmental, college, and university levels, as well as more broadly in the field and the design professions. This appointee is expected to collaborate with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied professions, or other public stakeholders.
This recruitment is conducted at the assistant rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.
