Provide oversight of GDC activity including: review and approve journal entries for GDC, overhead, payroll, taxes, accounting and legal fees, scholarships/gifts, and corrections; allocate GDC benefits based on payroll expenses; manage the creation and upload of annual budgets in Statement of Activities (SOA) format to Oracle for global campuses; monitor monthly/quarterly invoices for GDC programs; review and coordinate support funding for GDC programs, as needed; and, oversee completion of the annual inventory process for GDC programs. Resolve any issues that are identified.
Compile quarterly and fiscal year-end financial statements for GDC including year-over-year comparisons and flux analyses; year-end projections; and, quarterly 'management discussion and analysis' by location. Manage monthly financial reporting for various GDC programs (board presentation, department statements, project summary, and account analysis).
Manage the biweekly payroll process for GDC employees including: management of the master payroll file; monitor payroll changes within payroll software; act as liaison to payroll software company; manage all tax related payroll matters (i.e. proper distribution of W-2's); and, resolve payroll issues.
Manage monthly process for remitting PIT payments to international tax authorities including: verification of net salaries on overseas employee assignments; submission of information to GDC's external tax advisor for calculation of taxes owed; approve journal entries to record the transactions in the general ledger. Review gross up calculations for both RIT and GDC employees for PIT and tax preparation. Prepare and disseminate communication to employees regarding year-end IP statements for faculty and staff who worked on international assignments with tax implications.
Prepare high-level analysis of accounts receivable balances for RIT Croatia and GDC, recording adjusting entries as needed for allowances, scholarships and deferred balances.
Manage the preparation of core and supporting schedules for GDC's IRS Form 990 Informational Return. Input data into Crowe software for review by management. Present Form 990 to the RIT GDC Board annually.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts (including inter-company) between GDC programs and RIT general ledger. Resolve any outstanding issues. Monitor cash balances in foreign bank accounts, prepare reporting for possible transfer of funds, and coordinate transfer if necessary.
Prepare RIT Croatia financial statements annually. Support the annual audit of RIT Croatia local financial statements, as applicable.
Monitor gifts given to GDC in the US designated for foreign programs ensuring: accurate classification on the GDC SOA; that donor-imposed restrictions are met; and, funds are released from restrictions when spending restrictions are met.
Complete research for other special projects related to accounting, financial reporting and tax reporting/compliance for global programs as requested by management.
Participate in a minimum of 40 hours of training/professional development annually (or a pro rata amount based on standard working hours). Training must be applicable to the employee's role current within the Controller's Division with the intent of enhancing overall knowledge as well as the specific skills, whether functional or technical, required to perform successfully in the position.
Department/College Description The Controllers Office team is comprised of accounting and financial professionals who work together to provide accurate, timely, and actionable information and services to our customers while acting as good stewards of the university's financial resources.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:
BS in Accounting, Business Administration or related business discipline
Seven to eight years related accounting experience OR equivalent combination of education and related experience
Skills:
Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and practices and well-developed supervisory skills
Advanced computer skills including in depth knowledge of Oracle Financial Applications, or an equivalent financial enterprise system, and Microsoft Office Suite of products
Strong analytical skills
Must possess strong communication skills both written and oral, exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, ability to set priorities, handle multiple tasks/demands simultaneously, work independently paying attention to detail, and exercise discretion in the execution of all responsibilities.
Must possess strong problem-solving skills along with a logical and investigative mind.
