POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Academic Standards and Evaluation serves as a resource for administrative staff,
professional and faculty advisors in an effort to clarify and disseminate academic policies and
procedures as well as to improve institutional effectiveness and promote student success. It is
the approver of all academic changes with regard to undergraduate students??? records such as
grade changes, course substitutions, waivers, and credit by examination, among others. The
Office of Academic Standards also houses the Committee on Admission and Standing, which
hears appeals and adjudicates decisions. These include readmission and dismissal appeals,
CUNY F Policy variance substitutions, refund of tuition, withdrawal after the deadline, medical
withdrawals, TAP waivers, and SAP (federal financial aid) appeals, among others.
Responsibilities
??? Develops policies and procedures to ensure successful implementation of all activities in
the Office of Academic Standards and Evaluation.
??? Ensures faculty and student compliance with the regulations of the New York State
Department of Education, the University, and the College.
??? Ensures consistent review and implementation of all academic standards policies
outlined by the University and the College.
??? Provides guidance to students on academic issues and matters relating to undergraduate
appeals as well as questions about admission; curriculum and graduation requirements;
academic policies; articulation; satisfactory academic progress; grading policies; and
academic standards, including those for retention and probation.
??? Consults with faculty and executive staff on academic policies defined by governance
bodies at the City University of New York and Lehman College.
??? Supports the professional development of faculty and staff as it relates to academic
policies.
??? Serves as business process owner of electronic grade changes and electronic records
modifications. Engages in analysis of changes and modifications to make policy
recommendations.
??? Engages in ongoing review of policy to ensure policies support students??? timely degree
completion.
??? Works with students failing to make satisfactory academic progress to connect students
to a variety of campus support resources and services that can aid them in maintaining
good academic standing.
??? Serves as liaison to various campus stakeholders (Registrar, Bursar, Student Affairs,
Financial Aid, schools and academic departments) on matters relating to academic
policies.
??? Serves in an advisory capacity to the Senate Committee on Admissions,
Evaluations, and Academic Standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
Qualifications
??? Ability to interpret and apply complex policy and procedures fairly and consistently.
??? Ability to help others across the College understand and administer policies or
procedures
??? Experience designing and conducting training to introduce and reinforce the
administration of policies and procedures to new faculty, advisors, and other members
of the College community
??? Experience reviewing policies and understanding governance process necessary to
propose and institutionalize policy changes
??? Ability to use student management systems to research case histories and adjudicate
decisions
??? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
??? Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
??? Experience in academic integrity, or a related area of higher education preferred
??? Knowledge of higher education operations and governance
??? Bachelor???s degree plus eight years of experience in policy or program administration
??? Master???s degree or Ph.D. in higher education, public policy/public administration, law or
a field relevant to policy and administration strongly preferred
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Directs development and operations of academic counseling services.
Designs, implements and monitors a comprehensive academic advisement model and protocol
Oversees outcomes assessment and creates strategic plan to further enhance academic advisement services
Manages an academic advisement center to ensure consistent and reliable information is provided to students
Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships; serves as primary liaison to faculty and administrators regarding academic counseling services; and works with academic departments to develop faculty advisement components
Administers all compliance and data integrity activities of academic counseling in accordance with University standards
Advises College administration on policy interpretation and execution regarding University academic counseling standards and best practices
Develops and manages unit budget
Manages professional and clerical staff
Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience. $119,995 -$141,858
