Supervises the college IT staff members and college support staff, and complete annual staff evaluations for permanent and temporary employees.
Major duties and responsibilities:
Works closely with the Dean of the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences to carry out effective college operations.
Provides leadership and oversight for faculty affairs, facilities planning and management, and other college and university relations.
Serves as Dean's office manager. Supervises the college IT staff members and college support staff, and complete annual staff evaluations for permanent and temporary employees.
Assists the Dean with chair/director reviews and recruitments.
Reviews and approve monthly absence management for the college.
Provides general oversight of college commencement activities.
Coordinates college leadership meetings, professional development activities, and ceremonial events (e.g., SBS Leadership Retreat, College Faculty/Staff meetings, probationary faculty mentoring meetings, SBS Awards Ceremony, Hall of Fame, etc.).
Assists in compliance with Federal, State, CSU, and University policies.
Works with other members of the leadership team to support accreditation requirements, and implementation of initiatives to meet the mission and values of the college and university.
Assists with confidential faculty and student issues.
Serves in the Dean's capacity in the absence of the Dean.
Works with College & Department leadership to develop strategies and craft programs to foster and support student success.
Other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
A terminal degree in an SBS discipline represented in the College.
Required Qualifications
Ability to develop and maintain strong and positive working relationships.
Experience with development and assessment of academic programs at the baccalaureate or master's level.
Demonstrated understanding of the role of faculty and faculty governance.
Experience with curriculum approval process.
Demonstrated ability to work well with a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds and different working styles, different communication styles, and different levels of organizational abilities.
Ability to work in changing and demanding contexts.
Ability to work effectively across disciplinary lines and lead projects that are outside their own disciplines.
Experience leading teams/units and supervising staff.
Demonstrated ability to communicate very effectively in a wide range of contexts.
Ability to make difficult decisions and problem solve despite familiar relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience serving as department chair, member of a significant college or university committee, or serving in university administrative roles.
Familiarity with major issues facing higher education including assessment, student achievement and success, and learning outcomes.
Demonstrated record of innovation, creative problem solving, and ability to respond to a changing array of opportunities.
Familiarity with Human Resources and an ability to learn policies specific to staff and other bargaining units.
Compensation and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $12,583- $12,898 per month
Classification Salary Range: $6,250 - $20,063 per month
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Position Information:
Work status: Full-time/Exempt/At Will
Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
This is a full-time management (MPP) position. MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
This position is a 'designated position' in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.
First considerations will be given to candidates who apply by Friday October 6, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled; however, the position may close when an adequate number of qualified applications are received.
As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.
