Shady Side Academy Middle School seeks a sabbatical leave, full-time Latin teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.

Reports To:
Head of Middle School
Responsibilities include:
Teaching four or five sections of Latin for grades 6-8
Coaching two seasons of sports or activities
Advising a homeroom group of approximately 11-13 students.
Working as a part of a team with students who are eager to learn
Being an integral part of a caring community of learners
Participation at grade-level meetings, and communication with advisors
Requirements: Experience teaching Latin is required. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated teaching experience, preferably in a middle school setting.
A successful candidate will have:
Respect and Understanding for young people, as well as experience working with early adolescents.
Passion for working with young people
Dedication to and confidence with multiple teaching methods
Sensitivity to diverse communities of learners and an appreciation of developmental differences in a middle school setting
Understanding of major themes in Classical history and culture, and able to make those themes relevant and engaging for Middle School students
A knowledge of 21st Century Skills and how they relate to classroom teaching
An ability and willingness to communicate clearly with parents
A bachelor’s degree is required, further degrees are welcomed. Ideal candidates will have an understanding of differentiated instruction, a flexible and team-oriented approach, excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, superior interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor.

Compensation
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Lunch is included when school is in session.
