Position Information
The UCR Office of Foster Youth Support Services supports the unique needs of UCR students who have formerly been part of the foster care system. The coordinator will work directly with the Director of the Office of Foster Youth Support Services to provide support to current and former foster youth on campus and those interested in attending UCR in the future. In addition, the coordinator will work closely with the development department on grant initiatives that support the academic success, retention rates, and graduation rates of former foster youth. The coordinator will arrange for special support services to this student population including serving as the liaison with other offices directly supporting the students and coordinating weekly meetings and social activities. The Foster Youth Support Services Program Coordinator will supervise a team of student staff that includes undergraduate and graduate students. The Foster Youth Support Services Program Coordinator will provide day-to-day operational support in the Foster Youth Support Services-Resource Center (FYSS-RC) by being available for students to access the resource center and provide one-on-one student assistance. The coordinator will also serve as a liaison working directly on diversity initiatives that generate interest, application, and ultimately UCR enrollment of high school and community college students with a special focus on first-generation college-bound students. Conduct visits to high schools and community colleges in order to inform prospective UCR students, their parents, counselors, and educators about admission policies and practices, and encourage enrollment at UCR. Initiate outreach programs and provide pre-enrollment advising to prospective applicants and newly admitted students and their parents.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

The full salary range for the Program Coordinator is $52,100 - $89,700 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is $52,100 - $61,500 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching / learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy
Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem- solving skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of foster youth students. Knowledge of needs assessment methodology with ability to interpret data to determine program effectiveness.
Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling, and analyzing data, and generating reports. Experience collecting, analyzing, and evaluating data, as well as developing verbal and written presentations regarding assessment of the data collected
Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Demonstrated ability to work successfully with multicultural and other non-traditional students
Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Skills to recognize problems requiring specialized attention to handle difficult, sensitive, and/or confidential issues
Ability to make presentations to both large and small groups
Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. General understanding of financial aid regulations and procedures
Proven interpersonal skills. Ability to be sensitive, diplomatic, tactful, patient, flexible, and helpful with diverse populations. Demonstrated skills in clear and effective communication
Ability to work independently or as a member of a team and follow through on assignments with minimal direction and supervision
Knowledge of the foster youth student issues through programming, resource management or other professional activities


Preferred Qualifications
Strong knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Thorough knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization.

Strong understanding of the services and resources available for foster youth students

Knowledge and experience in planning, coordinating and implementing academic, and cultural enrichment programs for first-generation college, low-income, and underrepresented college students.
