Lead and facilitate advisor development program at RIT to help advance advising model
Partner with director to engage advising stakeholders to identify and prioritize efforts on an annual basis
Offer multiple resources for RIT advisors via CPD workshops, webinars, brown bag lunches, etc.
Analyze feedback received from participants and share information as appropriate in order to continuously improve services
Identify and coordinate tracks for different levels of advisors (new, established)
Manage logistics and record-keeping processes
Create university level advising handbooks and documents (syllabi) in consultation with advising constituents
Lead and facilitate the RIT Advisors Council, including:
Identify timely and appropriate meeting topics for the University community
Develop activities, presentations, and documents related to RIT processes, CAS Standards, and NACADA best practices
Share timely information and cutting-edge articles with advisors via email distribution list and/or website
Create and disseminate communications to highlight noteworthy advising news, articles, etc. for the campus community (i.e. weekly updates)
Coordinate relevant information to be shared on the University Advising Office website
Lead Sr. Staff Specialist to identify logistics for Advisors Council (room reservations, distribution list maintenance, inviting and scheduling guests, meeting minutes, etc.)
Partner with the director to mobilize Advisors' Council committees related to advising and student success, provide 'charge' for committees, and review progress as they prepare recommendations for stakeholders
Manage centralized repositories and tools (share drive, UAO website) for advising documents and resources
Assist director to lead evaluation and assessment of university advising initiatives, including:
Partner with university advising community
Engage advisors council committees and deans delegates for advising when appropriate
Review with Office of Educational Effectiveness Assessment
Lead annual efforts to evaluate and report on advising assessment data
Partner with University Advising Office team to refine the use of technology related to advising and student success for the university advising community (i.e. processes related to Starfish, SIS, etc.)
Provide triage/overflow advising for university community
Act as triage coordinator for University Advising Office
Assist students and families who need assistance navigating RIT advising resources
Track and report trends and issues to share with university leadership as appropriate
Attend SBCT on behalf of the University Advising Office as requested
Supervise university advisors assigned to support students across multiple colleges
Partner with colleges being supported by advisors
Document processes and expectations for evaluation and feedback
Lead committee for Provost's Award for Excellence in Academic Advising Support and participate in retention and student success initiatives as assigned Assist in the overall marketing efforts of the department Represent the University Advising Office on university committees as appropriate Other duties as assigned
Department/College Description The University Advising Office leads RITs undergraduate academic advising program and strategic student success initiatives to consistently support students academic success, persistence towards educational and career goals, and on-time graduation. The associate director reports to the director of the University Advising Office.
Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:
Earned Masters degree in Higher Education, counseling or a related field
Minimum of 5 years experience in higher education with progressively responsible administrative experience
Experience with student information systems, databases, and/or student success software
Skills:
Demonstrated success in working with advising and/or student support initiatives
Deep understanding of student development and learning theories
Strong knowledge of academic advising, student success and retention strategies
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
Experience presenting information and facilitating workshops for a variety of audiences
Team player with a commitment to working effectively with multiple constituents across campus
Demonstrated diplomacy and consensus-building skills
Self-guided, autonomous worker
Creative problem solver
Desired Qualifications:
Experience configuring technology, documenting processes, and training users
Previous experience working across multiple constituencies
Previous experience supervising paraprofessional and professional staff
Knowledge of/ willingness to learn American Sign Language
