Director of The Obermann Center for Advanced Studies

The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) at The University of Iowa is seeking candidates for the position of Director of The Obermann Center for Advanced Studies (OCAS). In addition to leading and managing OCAS, the successful candidate will be a strategic advisor to the Vice President for Research and will work closely with the Associate Vice President of Research who oversees the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

The OCAS director will: Provide her/his/their vision for OCAS; Develop interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary programs for faculty and students; Work collaboratively with constituents across campus to elevate the arts, humanities, and social sciences and build connections/relationships to the physical/life sciences; and work with UICA on fundraising and maintaining contact with external funding agencies. This position offers an opportunity to create, develop, and sustain support for all academic scholarship, with an explicit but not exclusive emphasis on the arts, humanities, and social sciences, and to support our university faculty and students.

The Obermann Center for Advanced Studies (OCAS) is a crucial part of the research infrastructure of the University of Iowa. The goal of the OCAS, as described in their history and mission statement, is to gather an inspiring intellectual and artistic community that uses interdisciplinary exchange to bridge the campus and the larger world. The Center strives to be a supportive, inclusive, equitable convening space dedicated to rigorous, mutually respectful debate and discovery that crosses disciplines. OCAS programming connects scholars across campus and engages the larger public in the ambitious, illuminating, and transformative work of the artists and scholars we serve.

This position is open to advanced Associate Professors (within two years of receiving promotion to Full) and Full Professors at the University of Iowa.

The position is expected to be a 12-month, fiscal year appointment and represent at least a 50% effort. The appointment will be for a renewable five-year term.
