About the Department
The University of Cincinnati Medical Center, in affiliation with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is the Sponsoring Institution for more than 67 ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs along with more than 34 other medical specialty programs and programs in dentistry and podiatry. West Chester Hospital, a community based hospital within our academic health system is the Sponsoring Institution for 1 ACGME-accredited residency and there is opportunity to expand.
The University of Cincinnati Medical Center GME Office is staffed and supported by a Senior Project Analyst, two Program Managers, one Executive Administrative Assistant, and two Administrative Assistants. The West Chester Hospital GME Office is staffed and supported by a part-time Institutional Coordinator.
Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) will serve as Designated Institutional Official (DIO) with primary responsibility for the residency and fellowship programs reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean for Educational Affairs, UC College of Medicine and Vice President of Education, UC Health.
The new DIO will have the opportunity to take the current GME programs to the next level and foster more closely aligned, productive working relationships with partner hospitals.
The ACGME Institutional Requirements describe the DIO as: The individual who, in collaboration with a Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), must have authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of each of the Sponsoring Institution's ACGME-accredited programs, as well as for ensuring compliance with the ACGME Institutional, Common, and specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program Requirements.
Working in a collegial and cooperative manner with all other leadership.
Ensuring the GME programming is coordinated smoothly with undergraduate medical education and other health professions students.
Maintaining institutional ACGME accreditation.
Maintaining residency and fellowship programs' ACGME accreditation.
Ongoing oversight of curriculum quality and content.
Ongoing oversight to ensure program facility needs are being met.
Mentoring and support of Program Directors.
Ongoing management of GME operations including: GME Committees; Contracts/Affiliation Agreements; Resident Well-Being; Managing Institutional Support; and Effective Communications with Institutional Stakeholders/Partners.
As applicable, the individual is eligible for a faculty appointment either in the Department of Medical Education and/or the appropriate clinical department.
As applicable, the individual would be expected to provide patient care and education relevant to their specialty.
MD/DO, PhD or EdD with a proven record of educational scholarship at an accredited medical school.
If applicable, ability to obtain an unrestricted license to practice medicine/clinical profession in Ohio.
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Significant experience in graduate medical education and curriculum development, management, oversight and evaluation, as evidenced by appropriate program leadership positions.
Previous experience as a Residency and/or Fellowship Program Director.
Robust understanding of the ACGME and experience with ACGME site visits and preparation for accreditation process and review.
Proven ability to coach and mentor physician educators.
Proven ability to successfully integrate the needs of residents and fellows with those of other relevant groups (residents, fellows, faculty, administrators, hospital, and clinic staff) participating in GME.
Proven ability to embrace and drive change.
Ability to be an advocate for the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the West Chester Hospital, and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and their unique academic medicine missions.
If applicable, academic achievements to support a faculty appointment within the appropriate clinical department at the rank of Associate Professor within the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
