Position Summary: Central Michigan University is seeking an accomplished and visionary leader to spearhead design and implement the College of Medicine's strategic initiatives, starting with a transformative integration of undergraduate and graduate medical education. As a member of the College of Medicine's Leadership Team, the Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives will report directly to the Vice President for Health Affairs/Dean of the College of Medicine.
The Executive Director will partner with senior leadership to manage all aspects of project management, from inception, integration, to completion. The Executive Director will be able to prioritize effectively, think strategically, see the big picture as well as important details, and will be able to develop solutions and provide practical, risk-balanced advice to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications: Masters degree in business administration, management, or a related field.Minimum of five years of relevant experience, with a proven track record of successful organizational integration.Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks effectively, including exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.Strong legal acumen and familiarity with the intricacies of complex business operations.Demonstrated problem-solving skills.Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage complex, multifaceted initiatives.Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading cross-functional teams, and managing through influence.Demonstrates an open and engaged style that creates a culture of collaboration and collegiality.Sets high standards and instills a sense of accountability in a performance-oriented environment.Demonstrates positive interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.Demonstrates responsibility and personal ownership of tasks and follows through to get required results.
Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD).Experience drafting and implementing policy and internal operating procedures.Familiarity with college/university operations.Experience in higher education, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other heavily regulated industries.
Duties & Responsibilities: Serves as single point of coordination for all strategic initiatives in the College of Medicine.Collaborates with legal and financial teams to ensure legal, regulatory, and compliance aspects of the project are thoroughly addressed.Actively involved in all aspects of sophisticated transactions, including leading negotiations, decision-making, risk assessment, supervising due diligence, agreement drafting and advising internal constituents.Protects the organization through assessment and mitigation of risk.Coordinates with legal counsel and other advisors to navigate complex contracts, and other legal considerations.Understands project specific transactions and other project management processes to accomplish objectives set by the executive leadership.Develops and implements a detailed project plan, outlining key milestones, timelines, resources, and responsibilities to ensure a well-structured and coordinated process.Monitors progress, identifies potential roadblocks, and swiftly addresses any deviations from the plan to keep the project on track.Leads a cross-functional team consisting of professionals from various disciplines, including but not limited to finance, human resources, IT, marketing, and academic affairs.Fosters a collaborative and inclusive environment, empowering team members to contribute their expertise and achieve common goals.Develops and executes a comprehensive integration strategy that aligns with the vision and goals of senior leadership.Drives cultural integration efforts to ensure a smooth transition for employees, faculty, and students.Develops a change management plan to navigate the cultural shifts and organizational adjustments.Distills important points and effectively communicate to internal and external stakeholders on progress, issues, and impediments to the project.Provides status updates to leadership executives with respect to changes in scope or cost of the project.Represents the Dean of the College of Medicine where appropriate, to include project/program development, business operations, facilities development, and information technology.
