Position Overview
Provide group guidance and social skills activities for students related to topics such as self-awareness, bullying prevention, and social awareness.
Role and Responsibilities:

Consult with teachers and support students’ social/emotional needs.
Provide support and consult with the campus parent liaison and parents related to the functioning of the child in the educational program and the home.
Facilitate parent information and support groups as needed.
Participate in IEP and Eligibility Determination Conferences to facilitate communication regarding student needs where appropriate.
Attend departmental, interdepartmental, professional, and community-based meetings as requested.
Assist in formulating campus and district goals and objectives addressing students' social and emotional needs.
Cooperate with campus parent liaisons to refer students and/or families to community agencies as needed.
Participate with consultants in planning in-service for teachers in students' social and emotional aspects.
Assume other responsibilities within the scope of the job and duties assigned in extraordinary circumstances.
Provide counseling to individuals and small groups relative to their concerns.
Collaborate with other school staff to design appropriate student testing and appraisal programs.
Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required utilizing technology as appropriate.
Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and the school policy in the area of counseling.
Present students with a positive role model that supports the school's mission.
Coordinate school-wide programs that recognize positive student behavior.
Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at a designated site regularly, according to an established work schedule.
Effectively communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
Develop needed professional skills appropriate to the job assignment.
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

Qualifications
Education/Certification • Master’s Degree in Counseling or Master’s Degree in Psychology or Social Work with courses included or added that address theories and methods in counseling, psychology of adolescence, career information and development, multicultural counseling, and vocational, academic, and career testing. Experience • 3 years experience in education, school counseling field, or related area
