Cuyamaca College is seeking a full-time, tenure track, equity-focused and anti-racist faculty member committed to serving its diverse student population. This counseling faculty member will foster an inclusive learning environment through equity-minded counseling, teaching, leadership, and service to students working toward goals of university transfer, associate degree and certificate completion, career and employment advancement, and personal growth.
Under administrative leadership, the position will be responsible for providing counseling services for the general student population. Regular/contract counselors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college. The counselor will be expected to actively participate on campus and the broader community by serving on departmental and college committees.
As a generalist, the Counselor provides academic, career and personal counseling. The Counselor may also teach counseling courses, lead workshops, orientations and seminars. In addition, assists in developing and implementing necessary success programs for disproportionately impacted students to advance the vision of Cuyamaca College, which is to transform lives through education. The Counselor assumes responsibility for maintaining currency in the field and for assisting in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes; program review and planning and participating in department activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Masters in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
the equivalent (NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)
Applicants must demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Experience and proficiency in educational, career, and personal counseling at a community college or university.
Training and experience working with individuals and groups in providing personal and crisis counseling.
Experience in counseling students on transfer to four-year institutions.
Experience advising students about certificates, associate degrees and transfer requirements.
Experience using technology in providing counseling services.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively with people of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, gender, racial, sexual orientation, religion, and ethnic backgrounds.
Commitment to examine, reflect, and modify instructional, relational, classroom and counseling practices to effectively engage and support disproportionately impacted populations with a goal of closing the equity gaps.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (OQ):
Counseling experience working in a California Community College.
Experience teaching career planning, college success and other personal development courses at the post-secondary level.
