POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Labor Studies and Urban Studies that are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as tradtional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the wokrplace and in the community. It also collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college-credit programs designed to give workers the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences, as well as expert practitioners in governement, labor, and public service.
SLU???s Learning Hub offers an array of programming to support SLU students in their coursework, including both one-to-one sessions and group workshops. The Learning Hub plays a central role in supporting the newly established College Now programs by providing ambitious NYC high school students guidance and structure for successfully completing their coursework and programs. Through the use of Supplemental Instruction (SI) Specialists, the Learning Hub develops and facilitates pre-semester bridge programs; develops and facilitates in-class literacy workshops; and meets with students outside of class individually and in small groups. With anticipated growth to the College Now programming, SLU seeks a new SI specialist to foster these programs, develop new and refine existing curricular resources, and act as a mentor to part-time SI Leaders.
Under the direction of the Associate Director of The Learning Hub, the SI Specialist will:
- Assist in providing leadership to the SI program and affiliated part-time staff, and work to expand the SI program.
- Work to implement best practices in academic supports, foster a collaborative learning environment, and champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethics.
- Meet regularly with faculty and campus partners, attend College Now class sessions, and partner with stakeholders to determine course-specific support needs for targeted student populations.
- Design and implement assessments for SI programming across SLU???s College Now portfolio.
- Develop and tailor bridge program curricula and student resources for individual College Now programs.
- Train part-time SI leaders and tutors in pedagogical techniques consistent with course content and in alignment with the SI model.
- Plan, schedule, promote and conduct small group and one-to-one sessions for College Now students.
- Collaborate with fellow Learning Hub team members to enhance delivery models, integrate digital portfolios into College Now courses, and drive a student-first mindset in all activities.
- Other tasks as assigned.
NOTE: Until further notice, work will be performed in a hybrid manner with 70% onsite presence. All CUNY employees must reside within a commutable distance to the tri-state area.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.

- Master???s degree in English, writing, education, counseling, or other related discipline
- Experience in a tutoring, SI, and/or leadership roles, with demonstrated knowledge of best practices in Supplemental Instruction, tutor training, and learning strategies.
- Ability to be sensitive, respectful, and understanding of all college students, diverse and underrepresented populations??? perspectives, and different learning styles
- Excellent presentation and outreach skills
- Proficiency with MS office applications, and academic technology software; ability and willingness to learn and adapt to new platforms as well.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including managing conflict and various communication styles
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize competing demands and deadlines
- Ability to work non-standard hours as needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Annual starting salary between $68,004 - $79,188, commensurate with education, credentials and experience.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Health Plan Coverage for Employees Hired on or after October 1, 2022 City of New York employees and employees of Participating Employers and their eligible dependents hired on or after October 1, 2022 will only be eligible to enroll in the EmblemHealth HIP HMO Preferred Plan and must remain in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan for the first year (365 days) of employment.
After 365 days of employment, the employee will have the option of either remaining in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan or selecting a different health plan within 30 days before the end of the 365th day period.
If a new health plan is selected, the new plan will be effective on the 366th day.
Only after the 365th day can the employee participate in any Annual Fall Transfer Period. An employee who needs to request an exemption from the required enrollment in the HIP HMO Preferred Plan can do so by submitting a HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form to EmblemHealth. An employee, or eligible dependent, must meet certain criteria and the request must be approved by EmblemHealth before the exemption is granted. The HIP HMO Opt-Out Request Form and HIP service area are available on the EmblemHealth website.
