Department Overview
The Career Counselor and Assessment Lead will play a crucial role in serving the academic and career readiness needs of primarily undergraduate students at Central, while providing guidance and oversight to our assessment, evaluation, and first destination survey programs. You will report to the Director of Career Services and be part of a team consisting of 6 fellow counselors and 3 support staff. Applicable standards for the Career Development program include those of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), National Career Development Association (NCDA), and Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA).

Provide career counseling, career advising, career assessment and job finding assistance to students andalumni, with a primary focus on first- and second-year students. Assist undecided/undeclared students to help them make informed choices concerning majors and careers through a process of self-exploration and investigation of the world of work. Coordinate and teach career exploration classes. Serve as liaison to Exploratory Advising. Lead the coordination of the Career Services assessment, program evaluation, and the university’s CWU New Grad Survey (First Destination Survey). Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, or related field that includes some component related to career development and career counseling
Experience in career services, counseling, or advising of students in a high school, community college, university or adult vocational program setting
Demonstrated willingness and/or experience working with students and/or co-workers from a wide range of abilities, backgrounds and experiences.Experience in presenting workshops/classes especially related to careers
Experience with student learning outcomes, assessment, and data analysis
Experience in working with electronic technologies such as internet, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations software, and social media
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (English/Spanish: reading, writing, speaking, and understanding)
Knowledge in administering career assessment instruments (such as WOIS, Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, and TypeFocus) for use in career counseling.
A record of promoting inclusivity in the work environment.
Experience or interest in mentoring students from a variety of backgrounds.
Ability to incorporate multicultural perspectives and issues into everyday conversations.
