Position Summary: Gannon University is seeking qualified applicants for an open live-in Resident Director position. The Resident Director (RD) serves as a full-time, entry-level, live-in professional for one or more university housing units, with the primary purpose of supporting and aiding in the University's aim to transform lives and inspire transformation'. The personal development of students is of utmost importance in this role. The RD works in collaboration with ORL team members and campus partners to coordinate and assist in the management and development of students' residential living and learning environments.
Supervision and Development of Resident Assistants and Desk Staff
Recruit, select, and supervise Resident Assistant and Desk Attendant staff and all of their duties, including resident engagement, on-call coverage, programming, and student accountability procedures.
Conduct regularly scheduled one-on-one and team meetings and continued development in conjunction with University priorities.
Guide staff to create programs and one-on-one interactions that transform lives and inspire transformation.
Establish and uphold clear guidelines for student staff responsibilities, including intentional resident interactions, community development, policy enforcement, and addressing performance issues as necessary.
Set clear expectations for student staff concerning personal behavior and confidentiality of student information regarding psychological, medical, academic, and personal matters.
Assist in developing and coordinating departmental policies and procedures.
Community Development and Area Presence
Foster relationships with students and staff by maintaining an accessible and welcoming office and community environment where the RD is seen as a resource, advisor, and champion for student well-being and success.
Promote the goals and objectives of the residential community in conjunction with University initiatives.
Demonstrate respect for individual students and assist them in their collegiate journey through intentional connection to resources.
Contribute to the effective team management of all relevant issues and opportunities.
Actively use provided meal plan to build and foster relationships with staff and students.
Student Accountability, Crisis Response, Counseling, and On-Call/On-Duty Rotation
Share weekday/night, weekend, and holiday on-call responsibilities with other professional staff members.
Communicate and model University expectations for community member behavior.
Establish clear guidelines and expectations for policy enforcement and associated documentation.
Conduct student accountability meetings in a seamless manner through case creation, accountability meetings, sanctioning, and follow-up. Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Programming
Coach student staff in the successful planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to meet departmental-, divisional-, and university-wide learning objectives.
Administer programming budget for designated areas through good stewardship and fiscally responsible practices.
Embrace opportunities to create and provide programming or small group engagement opportunities as a full-time professional team member.
Development and Maintenance of a Clean, Safe and Functional Living Environment for Residents
Conduct ongoing assessments of the physical condition of buildings in designated areas, including individual rooms, common areas, and immediate surrounding grounds, and assist with the identification of area-improvement projects.
Build and maintain effective working relationships with Maintenance and Custodial team members.
Coordinate on-site supervision for area fire drills and health and safety inspections of individual rooms.
Supervise dissemination, completion, retrieval, and submission of Room Condition Forms and other assignments paperwork.
Supervise and manage area move-in, closing, damage billing, and damage billing appeals.
Collateral Roles, Departmental, Division and Professional Commitments
Identify and participate in collateral assignment(s) aligned with personal and professional interests, expertise, and/or needs of the department, division, university, and community.
Develop and foster relationships with a variety of campus partners in order to collaborate with other departments on campus.
Pursue professional development and interests through committees and campus partnerships. Involvement in professional student affairs regional and/or national associations is also supported and encouraged. The RD may temporarily perform other duties assigned to ensure departmental functionality. KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Requires bachelor's degree in education, human services, or related field, and experience in supervision, administration, and programming. Previous experience with student development, international, and diverse populations is preferred. Occasional evening and weekend hours are to be expected and embraced. Must have excellent administrative, oral, and written communication skills; human relation, mediation, and training skills; and the ability to handle confrontational individuals or environments.
SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL: Supervise Resident Assistants and student desk staff.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Internal: Has regular contact with students, the Vice President and Associate Vice President for Student Development and Engagement, Physical Plant, Campus Police and Safety, Faculty, and Student Development departments.
External: Has contact with family members, community organizations, and/or surrounding neighbors of the University.
