The High School Academic Dean will be a Christ-like servant-leader on our campus who works collaboratively with the academic leadership team, the high school leadership team, faculty, staff, students, and parents towards to create a school culture in continued pursuit of academic excellence. This position reports directly to the Senior Academic Dean. Primary Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with the AHOS, HS Principal, and Senior Academic Dean to establish excellent opportunities for Professional Development of HS Faculty while creating a culture of excellence in teaching and learning.
Work with Academic Leadership, the AHOS for Academics, the Senior Academic Dean, and the Director of Curriculum in the continued development of curriculum, assessment, courses of study, scope and sequences, goals and objectives, departmental audits, etc.
Assist the Senior Academic Dean in planning for Academic Senate meetings involving all department heads, the Academic Prefect (student leader), and other key academic personnel.
Recommend policies related to the academic program.
Assist the HS Principal, Senior Academic Dean, and department chairs on the hiring of teachers through interviews, follow up on resumes and references, etc.
Oversee the development of the AP/honors classes, student testing performance on AP/IBE exams. Recommend classes, teachers, and teacher training for these programs
Recommend academic awards with input from the academic departments
Participate and oversee in the annual academic awards program
Supervise extra-curricular events as a member of the High School Leadership team.
Assist in the observations of teachers throughout the school year and conduct formal observations and evaluations with selected teacher
Assist the Senior Academic Dean to ensure annual course and student scheduling in an effective, efficient, and timely fashion.
Provide oversight to our hybrid students/families (physical campus high school students who are enrolled in 1 or more OC Online classes) ensuring necessary structure, support, and resourcing.
Support the Senior Academic Dean to ensure successful AP and UC submissions and approvals.
Work with the Senior Academic Dean to make FTE recommendations (including courses, sections, etc.) to the HS Principal.
Work with Summer School Principal and Summer Camps Director to ensure academic mission is being met with fruitful programming.
Assist in supervision of students before and after school and at lunch on a rotation basis, as well as at specific athletic events as required by the HS Leadership Team.
Assist in the development of academic competitions to enhance the academic program and achievement of students (i.e. academic decathlon, Speech and Debate, math competitions, Mock Trial, etc.)
Proper reporting regarding the academic standing of our student-athletes.
Master's degree (minimum)
At least 5 years of classroom experience
At least 3-5 years of experience in academic leadership (including but not limited to experience as a department chair, PLC lead, etc.)
Strong written/oral communication skills, dynamic interpersonal skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office and other online platforms
