Randolph School seeks a dynamic and engaging Middle School Band Director with strong interpersonal skills for our Middle School Division (Grades 5-8). The successful candidate will have experience leading a range of instrumental ensembles including developing young beginning students as well as more experienced players. The teacher will be expected to sponsor and help prepare students for off-campus opportunities such as: Concert Band Festivals, Solo & Ensemble, the All-State Band Festival, District Honor Band, and others according to students’ needs. Opportunities exist for directing a jazz band, pep band, as well as collaborating with Choral Programming.
The teacher will join a vibrant, experienced faculty and will be actively involved in the school’s full program which will include advising, sponsoring clubs, chaperoning field trips, being on faculty committees and attending school events.
The ideal candidate will be able to perform the following essential duties:
Conducting and developing the Middle School Band (grades 7 and 8)
Conducting and developing the 6th grade Beginning Band
Collaborating with other departmental colleagues to teach fifth grade music
Partnering with the Upper School Band Director to ensure a smooth transition between divisions
Assisting with program development and recruitment for all Middle School music programs
Serving as an advisor for 10 to 12 middle school students, typically on the 6th grade team
Creating a supporting and inclusive environment while developing respectful relationships with students by using conflict resolution and problem-solving techniques within the classroom
Monitoring and managing student learning using a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student progress
Partnering with grade level team members to address the needs of the whole-child
Demonstrating effective written and oral communication (parent conferences, written correspondence including narrative reports)
Sharing duties and responsibilities with other members of the faculty
Integrating technology appropriately in the classroom
This teacher will participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the Middle School and the school community in a manner that supports and promotes the Randolph School Mission.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music or music education is required. A Master’s degree in music is preferred.
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate a strong understanding of children in grades 5-8, a willingness and ability to team teach, an interest in offering support to other music concentrations at Randolph, familiarity with various music education methodology, participation in professional organizations, and a record of successful teaching and program development.
