The Assistant Dean for PhD Nursing Science Program (Assistant Dean) collaborates with the Senior Associate Dean for Research to promote student learning and professional role preparation in the PhD in Nursing Science program. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Dean is to facilitate planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the PhD in Nursing Science program's educational processes and semester activities. The Assistant Dean serves to ensure curriculum integrity and adherence to Vanderbilt University Graduate School standards. The Assistant Dean is further responsible for PhD faculty development in the PhD in Nursing Science program and serves as a resource to the faculty and staff engaged in PhD education regarding administrative policies and regulatory standards related to graduate education. The Assistant Dean also ensures consistent implementation of evidence-based pedagogies in graduate PhD teaching-learning, including best practices for PhD education outlined by national governing bodies in nursing education (e.g., AACN). The Assistant Dean will also implement strategies to maximize diversity within the PhD program and Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN).
An earned doctorate in nursing or a related field is required.
Several years of experience in PhD level teaching, curriculum development, and program evaluation is required.
Evidence of success in an extramurally funded program of research and national recognition as a leader in the field is required.
Demonstrated leadership abilities, managerial skills, creativity, ability to make timely decisions, to collaborative effectively, and to be open to the ideas of others and to constructive feedback is required.
Rank of Associate or Full Professor; eligible to chair PhD dissertations (i.e. tenure-track or tenured) is required.
