PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment supervises all assessment, accreditation, and compliance efforts for Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine (DUCOM) to ensure that curricular programming, outcomes, and revisions are mission aligned promoting excellence in medical education. The Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment also works collaboratively with DUCOM leadership to ensure timely and accurate accreditation efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assessment:
Develop and maintain policy and procedure to regularly assess and report on curricular activities, strategic goals and other key outcomes.
Develop and maintain a curricular map to ensure that all clinical and educational competencies and entrustable professional activities for osteopathic medical education are met.
Assist with the development of educational research protocols.
Assess National Board preparatory efforts and COMLEX-USA Level 1, 2 and 3 and USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3 outcomes.
Coordinate a process by which students assess courses and faculty instruction for MS 1-4.
Work with biomedical and clinical departments on assessment-related tasks.
Facilitate strategic planning for the medical school to integrate missing goals, assessments and outcomes.
Assist with data collection and reporting for outcomes related to admissions, simulation, alumni surveys and other departments that impact strategic goals of the COM.
Provide support for all software programs used for assessment, accreditation, and curricular needs and be proactive in determining the ongoing needs for continued development.
Compliance:
Collaborate with DUCOM leadership team and the DUCOM Curriculum Committee for curricular planning.
Assist with technology platforms including the website and curricular reporting content as required by COCA.
Participate in course review, coordination and reporting.
Develop and evaluate program evaluation and student feedback systems (for courses, faculty, and the COM).
Partner with DUCOM departments, teams and leaders on accreditation-related tasks.
Oversee medical student outcomes data (generate/track/reporting).
Assist with curriculum mapping efforts.
Consult with teaching faculty on various issues/questions/concerns.
Help lead the compilation of evidence for required standards and documentation for annual reports and self-study reports for COCA and other accreditation efforts as necessary.
Oversee the development of annual assessment and accreditation reports as needed for the university.
Medical Education:
Gather data, conduct program assessment, compile information, and prepare and present reports.
Communicate effectively with all levels of faculty, staff and students.
Work closely with faculty, staff, and administration on tasks to provide student support.
Provide budget management, planning, assessment, goals and strategies.
Identify and investigate new processes and technologies in the field of medical education which could potentially benefit the COM.
Organize and manage multiple project operations involving multiple and conflicting timelines.
Read, understand, follow, enforce and interpret complex regulations, policies and procedures.
Supervisory:
Supervises personnel in the Department of Medical Education.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Qualifications:
Master's degree in Biostatistics, Higher Education Administration or relevant field(s).
Must have training and experience serving in an academic management position in an institute of higher education.
Must have at least five years relevant experience in higher education administration.
Must be able to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels.
Must be able to work as a group leader and group member.
Must have strong organizational skills and be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Must have computer technical knowledge and skills to effectively prepare reports, utilize spreadsheet data and formulas and utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access as well as PDFs and educational software/data programs such as Pivot Tables.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD or EdD preferred.
A strong assessment background is preferred.
Experience in a medical education setting.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
