Job Summary
Department Purpose
The School of Education was established in 2002, building on an 85-year tradition at UC Davis of working to strengthen public education. The School offers preparation for the California teaching credential, master's and doctoral-level programs for both educational researchers and practitioners, and professional development for educators throughout Northern California. It is home to the Resourcing Excellence in Education (REEd) Center, which is a university-based intermediary with deep ties to the TK 16 education
community across the state. REEd works to move research findings into practice and building the capacity of education systems to improve teaching and learning with the goal of reducing education inequities. The GEARUP program is located in Orland, CA (1.5 hours north of Davis) and works in partnership with administrators, educators and students in all levels of education (K-16) in Colusa, Glenn and Tehama counties.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the GEAR UP Project Director, the GEAR UP Assistant Director assists the Project Director with overall management of GEAR UP grant deliverables and provides support to GEAR UP staff. The Assistant Director develops and maintains program visibility in GEAR UP schools, develops and maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions within and in expansion of the GEAR UP Rural Valley Partnership and develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs. The Assistant Director establishes on-going training for school district site, the GEAR UP Advisors, and is the primary Lead for the GEAR UP Summer Program, Field Trip Events, and works to support GEAR UP Partners and Staff on survey and data collection. . The Assistant Director trains Advisors on how to assess the needs of the student population served and trains the Advisors in the development of academic outreach programs designed to increase the number of college eligible and college bound students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and provides academic enrichment opportunities for targeted high school and middle school students. The Assistant Director assist the Project Director with overall management of the GEAR UP grant. The Assistant Director provides leadership to multiple staff and manages the GEAR UP Staff Training Program, is responsible for communicating policies and procedures. The Assistant Director serves on the Regional GEAR UP Advisory Board in 3 counties and works with the GEAR UP Project Director to prepare written data analysis outlining the programs' outcomes and effectiveness reported for annual reporting to the U.S. Department of Education. The Assistant Director works to strengthen organizational relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions to create an expand grant services and enrichment activities. The Assistant Director can serve as Director during absence or vacation.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis.

Work flexible schedule, occasional evenings/nights, occasional overtime, varied lunch hours, and weekends and holidays to meet business needs.
Position is a mandatory reporter for known or suspected child abuse and requires that a statement acknowledging the requirement to report child abuse be signed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
Teaching, advising, or youth development experience serving large numbers of ethnically and economically diverse students.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Experience with California public K-16 school system.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
Communication skills to prepare oral and written reports, proposals, correspondence, assessments, email and other materials for a variety of audiences.
Knowledge of high school graduation and college entrance requirements, academic standards, administrative and governance structures, faculty relations, school protocols, and categorical funding.
Computer skills to utilize various programs and software including word processing, and spreadsheets.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
Experience working in/with GEAR UP programs, or college access programs.
Experience with academic preparation programs and outreach efforts to increase educational achievement, specifically among students from diverse populations and language backgrounds.
Knowledge and/or experience related to the California North State Region, and/or the collaborative college access partners operating in the region.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
Advanced leadership skills to interact effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds and organizational levels, and to establish and maintain collaborative relationships.
Extensive knowledge of higher education institutions, admissions and financial aid requirements, and matriculation processes.
Demonstrated ability to interpret college admissions and financial aid policies and procedures to K-14 students, parents, and school representatives.
