Job Summary:
The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.
This position will be within the Waisman Center University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The mission of the UCEDD is to support the full inclusion and self-determination of people with developmental disabilities and their families through: development of personnel qualified to provide services in the health, education and social service systems; provision of services, technical assistance and the dissemination of information; and the contribution of new knowledge about the causes and prevention of developmental disabilities, the impact of disabilities on individuals and families, and the efficacy of assessment, intervention and support methods.
The Autism and Developmental Disabilities (A&DD) Clinic Director is a staff member of the Developmental Disabilities and Genetics Clinical Services operational unit within the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Clinics at the Waisman Center are operated in partnership with UW Health. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of the A&DD Clinic and clinic-related research and training. This position may also serve as a psychology content expert for the Wisconsin Maternal and Child Health Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Program (WI LEND) in providing training and mentorship to trainees and clinical educational experiences for students
The position includes clinical instruction, training, clinical service, research, evaluation, outreach, clinic leadership and supervision. The A&DD Clinic Director establishes key partnerships in order to: teach and train UCEDD trainees and students from UW-Madison departments including the Departments of Educational Psychology and Pediatrics; embed clinical training and research into practice; build the statewide capacity to serve individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD); and share ASD expertise with UW Health. The director participates in regional and national networks to address the needs of individuals with ASD. These partnerships include the goal to embed research components into the A&DD Clinic. This position includes supervision of clinic staff, psychologists and trainees. This position includes the expectation of the development of a research agenda related to ASD.
Responsibilities:
(30%) Direct Clinical Services: - Serve as a member of Waisman Center Clinical Services team and provide clinical psychology services to individuals and families served in the Waisman Center Clinics. - Assist with the planning of interdisciplinary (ID) clinic visits and review of records and preparations for ID or discipline only services. - Participate and collaborate in interdisciplinary evaluations as requested. - Conduct skilled assessment and analysis of psychological performance and evaluations of relevant developmental skills (e.g., developmental assessments, autism diagnostic evaluations, cognitive testing). - Screen for cognitive concerns and provide consultation and technical assistance to families and community service providers based on findings. - Document results of assessments and other clinical services in compliance with Waisman Center and UW Health requirements, including electronic medical records, interdisciplinary reports, and annual reports. - Mentor and train new staff to develop professional competency in the diagnostic and cognitive testing tools used in the Waisman Center Clinics.
(25%) Clinic Leadership and Supervision: - Supervise, mentor and support professional growth for Autism and Developmental Disabilities (A&DD) Clinic staff. - Establish consistent training for incoming A&DD Clinic staff. - Assist in A&DD Clinic staff recruitment. - Support and strengthen the clinic team to implement evidence-based practice and UCEDD principles of care (interdisciplinary, patient and family- centered, strengths-based). - Provide mentorship, direction and leadership for all A&DD Clinic staff. - Implement high quality standards of care in partnership with the staff, clinic coordinator, clinic leadership and UCEDD leadership. - Ensure that psychology clinical documentation and billing requirements meet UW Health policies. - Serve as a member of Waisman Center Clinic committees.
(20%) Teaching and Training: - Serve as or support the Psychology Training Coordinator for WI LEND and other UCEDD training programs. - Work with the UW-Madison and other graduate programs to develop and maintain a strong working relationship between the WI LEND Training Program and other programs. - Recruit, supervise and evaluate psychology students who are UCEDD trainees. - Serve as a LEND Mentor and clinical preceptor for psychology or other LEND trainees in clinics. - Participate in local and state training activities, lecture in University courses on topics related to developmental disabilities, ASD, family issues, maternal and child public health. - Coordinate and provide clinical educational experiences for students, including providing an observation site for individuals considering psychology as a career, coordinate student activities with other clinicians at the center.
(20%) Participate in Research Activities: - Collaborate on research related to neurodevelopmental disabilities. - Pursue professional line of research related to autism spectrum disorders, including small and large project funding, publication and other forms of dissemination of results contributing to the evidence base for applied practice. - Foster coordinated planning and programming with others in the Waisman Center UCEDD and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC).
(5%) Other Duties to Support Core Functions of UCEDD: - Participate in activities to support the core functions (conducting training, model services, research, evaluation and dissemination) of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) in accomplishing the goals and mission of each center. - Engage with staff and investigators to conduct and further research related to psychology, intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

Education:
Required Terminal Degree Doctoral degree in Clinical or School Psychology required
Qualifications:
Applicants must have the following required experiences and knowledge: - A minimum of five years as a practicing psychologist working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Two years of specialized training or experience may be pre-doctoral or post-doctoral but must be intensive (20 hours per week or more) and focused on this client population. - Clinical experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities and their families, including experience providing diagnostic evaluations. - Assessment skills in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior and socio-emotional/behavioral functioning. Substantial experience with autism specific diagnostic measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2). - Demonstrated skill and experience in leading and managing committees, project teams, and workgroups. - Demonstrated skill and experience in supervising staff and psychology trainees.
Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience: - Demonstrated track record of planning, implementing and publishing research related to ASD - Prior experience in the planning, writing and editing of grant and/or contract proposals. - Prior experience as an independent research investigator. - Prior experience as a graduate or staff/faculty in a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) funded training program such as LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities).
License/Certification:
Preferred PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure Must be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin or eligible to practice in the State of Wisconsin within one year of hire.
