POSITION SUMMARY
The Hewitt School seeks a full-time middle school science teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach three sections of middle school science, with a focus on chemistry and biology, as well as one other course to be determined
Serve as a middle school advisor and participate in middle school electives program
Integrate learning about equity and diversity and social emotional learning into academic and advisory programming
Collaborate with department members on pedagogy and curricular scope and sequence
Participate in the life of middle school, attending all community meetings, teaching a weekly elective class rooted in the school’s mission, attending faculty meetings, etc.
Effectively design learning experiences using educational technology and the school’s learning management system, Altitude
Provide regular feedback to students and families in the form of narrative reports and progress updates in Altitude in line with school expectations and deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Demonstrated commitment to anti-bias education and social justice
Bachelor’s degree in science, science education, or a related field
A minimum of three years middle school teaching experience
Excellent communication skills for a wide variety of audiences, both oral and written
Demonstrated proficiency in educational technology
Demonstrated commitment to the leadership development of girls and young women
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED
Master’s degree in science or science education
Inquiry-based pedagogy
Culturally responsive approach to teaching
Proficient with Mac platforms; comfortable with technology or demonstrated ability to learn quickly
Fluency in multiple student-centered instructional approaches
Commitment to student life
Proven dedication to professional growth and purpose-driven practice
Professional practice and ability to model contemplation as part of intellectual exploration
SALARY RANGE
Starting Salary Range: $65,000 to $95,000 (salary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience and expertise)
