Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Science Teacher, Grades 6-8, to start August 2023. Successful candidates will possess content and pedagogical expertise in ecology and environmental science, and/or physical science, with a focus on hands-on experiential learning using the design loop, a dedication to collaboration, and a creative and flexible approach to curriculum design and instruction. Interdisciplinary proficiency is highly desirable. 

The Advisory program is a fundamental aspect of the Middle School’s culture. Advisors meet weekly with their group of Advisees (8-10 students), as well as with the Grade-level Team to which they are assigned. Advisors are supervised by their respective Grade-level Dean in coordination with the Assistant Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. They are the primary point of contact for parents/guardians and are involved in academic goal-setting, reflective exercises, and rituals such as student-led conferences. Advisors are also responsible for deploying curriculum developed by the Division’s Advisory Committee, and function as an advocate for each advisee in all facets of their Middle School experience. All Middle School faculty are expected to serve as an Advisor.

Responsibilities Include:

• Instructional responsibility in content area(s)
• Serving as an advisor for 6-12 students
• Oversight and assessment of the development and progress of each child
• Assessment of all student's progress in both written and verbal reports
• Communication with parents
• Collaborative work with colleagues on grade level, departmental and interdisciplinary faculty teams, Middle School faculty and staff, and the broader school community
• Daily supervision of a lunch table
• Contribution toward athletic and/or co-curricular programming, as assigned, in addition to classroom role

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree 
• A minimum of 3-years successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, or demonstrated professional competency
• Experience with inquiry-based and/or project-based learning
• A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
• Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
• Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice 
• Demonstrated capacity and desire to teach across multiple disciplines/subject areas
• Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students 
• Experience as an academic advisor
• Athletic coaching experience
• Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
