Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Visual Arts Teacher, Grades 6-8, to start in August 2023. The ideal candidate will be a generalist who possesses the ability and enthusiasm to incorporate constructive, integrative, reflective, and inquiry-based learning into the studio art experience, with a dedication to collaboration, a creative and flexible approach to curriculum design and instruction, and the ability to work with combined artistic levels in grades 6-8.

Responsibilities Include:
Instructional responsibility in content area(s)
Serving as an advisor for 6-12 students
Oversight and assessment of the development and progress of each child
Assessment of all students’ progress in both written and verbal reports
Communication with parents
Collaborative work with colleagues on grade level, departmental and interdisciplinary faculty teams, Middle School faculty and staff, and the broader school community
Daily supervision of a lunch table
Contribution toward athletic and/or co-curricular programming, as assigned, in addition to classroom role
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
A minimum of 3-years successful classroom teaching experience with students in this age group, or demonstrated professional competency
Solid understanding of Foundations of Art and Design and the Elements of Design
Experience with inquiry-based and/or project-based learning
Willingness to maintain an “open art room”, allowing all students to visit the art room when time allows
A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community
Willingness to take on multiple roles within the school
Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of children - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in academic/research field and/or professional experience within your area of practice
Demonstrated capacity and desire to teach across multiple disciplines/subject areas
Experience in and desire to build culture and community with both adults and students
Experience as an academic advisor
Athletic coaching experience
Demonstrated experience in establishing collaborative relationships with external partners/organizations in the design and implementation of learning experiences
