The Coordinator of Competitive Sports reports to the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports & Community Programming and provides leadership, strategic planning, administration, and day-to-day decision-making for the safe, efficient, and effective operation of a comprehensive collegiate club sports program within the Department of Well-Being & Recreation. This position will foster health and well-being across the Club Sports community through engagement, empowerment, and inclusion. Primary areas of responsibility include direct supervision of club sports student personnel, advisement of club officers and the Club Sports Executive Council, promoting club member leadership and development, developing and facilitating program policies and procedures, monitoring club budgets and the allocation of program resources, and establishing risk management policies. Secondary responsibility includes assistance with the delivery of the Intramural Sports program. Lastly, the Coordinator of Competitive Sports is expected to promote and facilitate effective communication and collaboration across all efforts of the department, university, and community partners to deliver a safe, quality end-user experience with Ohio University.
Program Development & Implementation (Club Sports) Design, develop, and implement a comprehensive collegiate club sports program. Provide direction, guidance, and training to all club sports officers and advisors to ensure compliance with all departmental and university rules and regulations foster leadership development and manage resource and asset management. Assists clubs in fundraising, budgeting, purchasing, traveling, goal setting, recruiting and marketing. Coordinate program scheduling of facility usage with appropriate administrative staff. Evaluates each aspect of the program and compiles statistical data on assessment, program evaluation, involvement, and satisfaction. Oversees and coordinates effective engagement and development strategies with Club Sports alumni network and stakeholders. Maintains current knowledge of club sport trends, best practices, and related issues.
Student Development & Inclusion Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and mentors staff. Creates and implements engagement, leadership, and development opportunities and strategies for club sport leadership and general members. Provides leadership and guidance, promoting integrity, accountability, and teamwork. Creates a culture of inclusion that embraces feedback to improve operations and services. Anticipates future needs of students, the program, the department, and the division and makes proactive adjustments to staffing levels or program structure to meet those needs. Develops and maintains working relationships, and positively influences and motivates staff and club sport officers. Encourages community engagement and promotes a sense of belonging.
Resource Management & Stewardship Responsibly manages university resources including but not limited to finances, people, and equipment/inventory. Continuously evaluates operation efficiency, maximizes the impact of available resources, and seeks opportunities to enhance and ensure the financial strength of Campus Recreation. Ensures that budgets comply with University and Department guidelines, policies, and procedures. Consistently monitors all revenue and expense budgets pertaining to the area. Coordinates use of facilities with administrative staff to ensure proper and safe management and maintenance of all program facility space. Risk Management & Safety
Develops and executes a comprehensive risk management plan for all areas of oversight to ensure risk management guidelines and practices are in line with departmental plans and the University's risk management policies and procedures. Provide proper and effective risk management training to all program-related student staff. Keeps accurate record keeping of any safety issues, injuries, and potential risks associated with the Club Sports program. Anticipates and identifies issues and areas of improvement and produces viable and logical solutions. Maintains current knowledge of all areas of responsibility regarding risk management and safety.
Student Affairs: Actively contributes as a staff member of the Division of Student Affairs that upholds the framework of equity and social justice and the personal well-being of the university community. Provides leadership, promotes collaboration and facilitates effective communication across all department, divisional, university and community partners. Maintains current knowledge of the University, its environment, purpose and affairs to be prepared to respond to appropriate issues. Actively participates in professional development opportunities and maintains knowledge of current trends and best practices within area of responsibility. Advocates and promotes diversity and inclusivity through roles and responsibilities in support of the department, division, and university initiatives. Infuses socially just practices into the work, making sure programming and trainings are inclusive and accessible to all students. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related field
1 year work related experience required 1 year of management experience required
