The Webb School seeks a full-time French Teacher for the 2023–2024 school year. This teacher will work collaboratively with other department members and is responsible for inclusive classroom instruction in a dynamic and enthusiastic manner. Teachers at The Webb School will remain current in best practices of their content area and must have strong communication skills. Embracing the mission of the school and its Enduring Understandings, this teacher will know how to bring the “hidden curriculum” into their classes as well as their advisory.
Responsibilities:
Teach 4-5 sections of French within the Department of World Languages.
Serve as an advisor to 10–12 students.
Serve in the school’s afternoon enrichment or athletics program.
Serve in the school’s residential program, either as a residential staff member or as a day faculty member supporting the Residential Life program.
Sponsor a club during the school day for at least one semester.

The ability and drive to carry on impromptu everyday communication in French despite occasional mistakes or hesitation, to foster realistic communication in the classroom, and to use French as a working language at school within and beyond the classroom. Language teachers at The Webb School understand that we are role models for what we want students to achieve in terms of their engagement with the language and culture.
Experience with designing and delivering active, hands-on learning experiences where vocabulary and grammar are taught contextually and where real-world communication skills and cultural awareness take precedence over analytical aspects of the language.
The skill and motivation to design, implement and assess student-centered learning that is culturally responsive and meets the needs of students of diverse sociocultural, linguistic and academic backgrounds.
Effective and proactive classroom management skills that are responsive to various ages and developmental levels, class sizes (which may range from approximately 5–15 students), sociocultural backgrounds. Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts in French or equivalent; a Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates must have working or native fluency in French regardless of their specific degree.
Experience with CI-based teaching, or a strong desire to develop those skills, in order to deliver classroom instruction in French for 90% or more of class time.
Experience working with students in the middle school or upper school level.
Experience in a boarding school is preferred but not required.
