DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Retirement Administration Service Center (RASC) counsels members of the University as they transition into retirement and provides long-term pension and retirement health benefits support.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Calculations Benefits Analyst 2 works closely with their department to 1) fulfill divisional strategic objectives to move the organization forward; 2) meet and exceed performance standards; and 3) build a culture of high performance in delivering a positive service experience to internal and external clients at every touch point.
The Calculations Benefits Analyst 2 is a highly motivated, detailed-oriented, problem solving, results-driven individual who is experienced in delivering exemplary customer service in a fast-paced work environment.
The Calculations Benefits Analyst 2 is an individual contributor who supports their supervisor and manager in ensuring the efficient use of resources, the accurate reporting of data and the timely delivery of benefit services to all internal and external members, customers and key stakeholders. The Benefits Analyst 2 also supports the compilation of weekly, monthly or quarterly reports, scorecards and/or dashboards.
The Calculations Benefits Analyst 2 also supports leadership in ensuring that staff comply with federal and state guidelines and policies set forth by the University of California.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Effectively handles the administration and communication of retirement pension benefits programs to retirees, survivors, beneficiaries and contingent annuitants.
Coordinates daily benefits processing which may include manual pension benefit calculations, payroll adjustments, benefit terminations, member outreach, post retirement adjustments, benefit adjustments, change requests, pre-retirement special calculations, and assistance with retirement counseling.
Partners with UC PATH, and campus locations to resolve issues.
May work closely with outside or internal legal advisors to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
Counsels employees on benefits-related issues and handles complex escalations/concerns/inquiries from retirees and survivors.
Operational Excellence
Supports leadership in building a culture of delivering exemplary service to all customers while focusing on operational excellence and process or workflow improvements.
Works closely with leadership to ensure that department goals and performance targets are met.
Always considers the customer's point-of-view and anticipates customers' needs when dealing with complex written and verbal inquiries from both internal and external clients.
Stays current on industry trends, departmental policies and procedures and applies accordingly.
Training and Development
Supports supervisor and manager in facilitating team development functions such as onboarding and mentoring new staff.
Participates in industry groups, network with peers, and attend trade shows and conferences to gain insights into competitors' benefits packages.
Customer Service Excellence
Serves as a 'change agent' who embraces organizational change and encourages colleagues to support pending or newly-implemented change initiatives.
Takes ownership and is accountable for the member experience, follows through with direct member communication.
May support supervisor and manager in developing back-up plans to ensure adequate staff coverage during peak periods, such as holidays.
Establishes and builds rapport/relationships with members and colleagues within and outside of RASC.

Qualifications / Technical Experience
Must have at least 1-2 years of experience in pension administration or benefits processing.
Knowledge of University of California Retirement Plan, regulations, and how it relates to University retiree benefits and policies.
Critical thinking skills to interpret polices and data as it relates to administration of pension benefits.
Proficient in calculating benefits, benefit adjustments, setting up benefit recoveries, and communicating to members.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; able to quickly learn new software.
Able to prioritize multiple tasks and deliver reports, projects and results within tight timelines and fast turnarounds; able to proof and audit for accuracy.
Must have an innovative and positive self-directed attitude.
Willingness to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
Exemplary verbal, written, change communication and presentation skills; able to work in a highly collaborative manner and formulate a clear point of view.
Able to work with strong personalities and different work styles while remaining calm, tactful, courteous and respectful under pressure.
Education
Must possess a Bachelor's in Business Administration, Finance, Data Analytics or equivalent work experience.

Payscale / Recommended Hiring Range: $75,000.00 TO $84,000.00
Full Salary Range: $61,600 - $107,600
Work arrangement and location: Hybrid work with 3 days on-site required. Located at UCOP's Oakland, CA offices. Not eligible for remote work arrangements. The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
