General Description
Under the direction of, and reporting to, the Superintendent, or designee, the High School Principal is responsible for all aspects of the management and operation of the high school. The Principal is expected to maintain a safe, caring student–centered environment that promotes high academic and ethical standards among students and staff. The High School Principal operates within the framework of District policies adopted by the Board of Education, the regular requirements as stipulated in the Education Code, the California Code of Regulations, Title V and the rules and regulations of the California Department of Education.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for providing, administering, directing and managing school and district initiated programs involving curriculum, extra and co-curricular activities, budget operations, guidance, students and staff.
Coordinates curriculum development with department chairs and ensures articulation with District wide efforts.
Actively participates in and/or chairs committees in the development and implementation of district approved curriculum programs; provide, assign and coordinate in-service training for staff to ensure uniform implementation.
Participates in the selection and assignment of classified and certificated personnel so that the school operates successfully and to the advantage of students.
Develop and administer school plans and organizational procedures, including student activities and discipline procedures; promote a healthy and safe student learning environment; ensure compliance with District policies and procedures.
Encourages articulation with partner schools and receiving institutions of higher education.
Responsible for certificated and classified employee evaluations, including valid and constructive suggestions for improvement, to assure the effectiveness of the instructional program.
Encourages professional growth activities for all staff members so that the school program reflects constant improvement.
Maintains ongoing two-way communication with faculty and staff in support of the school's and District's long range goals, as well as day to day operations.
Facilitates communication between support staff, teachers, parents, students and District office.
Represent the school to the District office, outside agencies and the community; maintain effective community relations.
Maintain effective communication with parents; provide information of new policies and procedures in the District; meet with parents; review student progress of behavior problems as appropriate. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive inquiries and complaints from parents and the general community.
Organize and oversee parent and booster organizations and act as advisor at meetings.
Encourage parent inquiry and participation in school activities.
Oversees the maintenance of school facility in a manner that results in an attractive, functional, and safe environment for students and staff.
Manages all site budgets, including student body accounts, to assure fiscal accountability and positive monetary balances including legal or Ed. Code compliance specific to ASB.
Participates, as needed, on district-wide planning and/or action committees, board meetings, etc. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

Identify and respond to community and District issues, concerns and needs
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District and site staff, parents, students and the community
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; prepare clear and concise reports
Administer and monitor site budgets
