GENERAL SUMMARY: Roland Park Country School, a K-12 independent girls’ school, seeks a full-time Middle/Upper School Art Teacher. The art teacher reports directly to the Middle School Head. Additionally, this position performs under the general direction of the Upper School Head and is a valued member of the Visual Arts Department. The individual in this role will foster an exciting, dynamic, and creative learning environment wherein students acquire skills, techniques, and a passion for art. The Middle/Upper School Art Teacher will work with adolescent girls and should have a strong desire to inspire courageous scholars. This individual collaborates with passionate educators to engage and inspire students to develop an interest in and techniques for creative expression in visual arts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Plans, assesses and teaches art classes for grades 6-9. • Plans, assesses and teaches multiple sections of Introduction to Studio Art in Upper School. • Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and art history. • Maintains a strong understanding of the fundamentals and different approaches to different visual art techniques. • Observes, evaluates, and provides instruction to students in discovering and developing techniques for creative expression in visual arts. • Knows and applies elements of design and modern principles of art. • Collaborates with colleagues and plans innovative and developmentally appropriate art assignments designed to engage a diverse student population. • Instructs students in proper care and use of tools and equipment. • Integrates interactive digital tools into the curriculum where possible. • Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community. • Participates in other developmental programs, such as after school art club. • Serves as an academic advisor to Middle School students and extracurricular activities. • Meets regularly with the Middle School Head, the Middle School team, and attends advisory team meetings as needed. • Attends professional conferences and workshops as needed. • Other reasonable duties as assigned from time to time by the Middle School Head or Head of School.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor’s degree in fine arts or arts education required. Graduate degree preferred. • Minimum of two years of demonstrated excellence in teaching. • Experience with inquiry-based learning pedagogies that put students at the center of their learning. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Remain in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for extended periods of time. • Repeat motion of wrists, hands, and fingers to operate standard office equipment, such as computer and phone. • Requires visual acuity to read a variety of written materials. • Physical agility: stand, kneel, walk, run, push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, reach overhead, crouch, and can respond to emergencies. • Must be able to move around and access all parts of the campus upon request, which includes gym, turf, fields, dining hall, etc. • Occasionally ascend and descend stairs in emergency situations. WORK CONDITIONS: • The Middle/Upper School Art Teacher is a full-time, exempt position. • The individual in this position is expected to work during all hours as may be assigned by the School and during other hours for events and activities. • The Middle/Upper School Art Teacher is expected to perform their job duties on campus unless otherwise permitted by the Head of School. • As a condition of employment, all employees hired after August 1, 2021, are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and be able to provide proof of such vaccination
