INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR POSITION AVAILABLE FOR AN EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING COACH
About the Role
Thrive College Counseling is looking to hire an executive functioning coach as an independent contractor to work with high school students as they navigate the college application process. This can be a remote or in person position, with the vast majority of students residing in the San Francisco bay area. At Thrive College Counseling, we work with students who are neurodiverse or have a learning disability such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, depression, etc. where the learning profile and individual needs are such that they can benefit from focused guidance to become successful in completing their college applications. The students you will be working with will primarily be focusing on applications to 4 year colleges.
What you’ll do:
In conjunction with Dr. Marci Schwartz, a parent/caregiver and the student, develop goals to support the student in completing the tasks necessary for their college applications
Based on the developmental readiness of the student, engage with the student with the goal of supporting them in building the skills they will need to be able to navigate the transition to college or other post secondary program
In addition to the college applications, some students will benefit from building their overall college readiness skills and independence, and to support students by coaching them to develop and maintain systems for time management, planning, prioritization, and organization
Communicate with Dr. Schwartz, parents and/or students about progress and scheduling
Draft weekly lesson notes that detail student progress, content covered
Comply with expectations of confidentiality
Attend bi-monthly meetings with Dr. Schwartz to review the progress of students
You will be responsible for managing your scheduling, and keep all time tracking and invoicing up to date, although some administrative support will be available
Provide Dr. Schwartz with a photo and bio to be added to the Thrive College Counseling website
You will be responsible for your own taxes, business liability insurance, and professional development
Dr. Schwartz will be providing you with referrals as they come into Thrive College Counseling, This work is expected to be very part time initially, and is meant to be adjunctive to your current coaching practice
Qualities of an ideal candidate:
A minimum of one year of practical experience coaching or tutoring students on executive functioning or organizational skills
Some prior experience coaching and/or tutoring students with learning disabilities and with students who identify as neurodiverse
Experience and familiarity in working with students with an IEP or 504 plan
Ability to bring patience and compassion to the work with students, incorporating a strengths based approach
Strong communication and writing skills
Professional manner and a willingness to learn as a team member
Participate in continuing education and/or certifications
ABOUT THRIVE COLLEGE COUNSELING AND DR. SCHWARTZ
Dr. Schwartz founded Thrive College Counseling with the goal of supporting teens with learning differences make the difficult but important transition into adulthood. Thrive College Counseling works with students to discover their best college fit in order to ensure a successful transition to the college or program of their choice after high school. Dr. Schwartz received her Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA Extension in 2016. She currently teaches an on-line class at UC Irvine to individuals who are working on their college counseling certificate. The class is entitled "Working With Students With Learning Differences". Dr. Schwartz is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Schwartz began her career as a therapist, and has provided counseling services to parents of children with developmental and learning challenges since 1989. In this capacity, she has worked with children and teens to better understand their strengths and challenges and develop the independent living skills and self-advocacy skills necessary for independence. She received her Ph.D. from New York University.
